Azhar Ali became the highest run-getter in UAE, going past Younis Khan, as Pakistan made a positive start.

Azhar completed his 15th Test ton soon after as Pakistan escaped the first session without losing a wicket.

Azhar Ali eventually fell for 134 but not before he had scored 201 for the fourth wicket with Asad Shafiq.

Shafiq, too, completed his ton before falling to William Somerville for 104.

William Somerville picked up four wickets as Pakistan collapsed to fold for 348.

New Zealand slipped to 26 for 2 at stumps and still trail by 48.
