anderson's 21-year-old career in pictures
Anderson's 21-year-old career in pictures
Having made his ODI debut by the end of 2002, James Anderson's Test debut came in May 2003 against Zimbabwe.
Anderson's stocks rose when he delivered a man of the match performance in the 2003 World Cup against Pakistan.
In the same year, he became the first Englishman to pick up a hat-trick in ODI cricket.
After a disappointing Ashes in Australia in 2006-07, Anderson turned his fortunes around in 2010-11 and played a part in England winning the series.
Anderson became a much-improved bowler in the sub-continent by the time England visited India in 2012 as he helped his team clinch a historic series win.
His 300th Test wicket came at Lord's against New Zealand.
Wicket No.400 was also against the same opponent one year later as he became the first Englishman to reach this landmark.
Not known for his batting exploits, Anderson's only fifty came against India in Trent Bridge.
Anderson wasn't picked for ODIs after England's disastrous 2015 World Cup campaign. He is still their leading wicket-taker in the format with 269 scalps.
Another milestone at Lord's as he picked up his 500th Test wicket in 2017.
Over the years, he formed a formidable bowling partnership with Stuart Broad.
In September 2018, Anderson overtook Glenn McGrath to become the most prolific fast bowler of all time in Test cricket.
Pakistan's Azhar Ali became Anderson's 600th Test victim as he continued to look impressive in his late 30s.
Anderson breached 700 in India during the fifth and final Test.
Anderson finally retired from international cricket just days before his 42nd birthday.
The legendary pacer finished his career with 704 Test wickets.
