The special bond between Chennai and the Pakistan team is well-documented. The passionate Chepauk crowd, well known for their appreciation of quality cricket, lived up to their reputation when Babar Azam's team played on Monday. However, by the end of the day, they may have discovered a new favourite team - Afghanistan.

Long after the match concluded, the stands remained filled with enthusiastic supporters, rallying behind the Afghan side, which sent shock waves that may have reverberated loudly in the cricketing world on Monday night. They defeated the higher-ranked and favoured Pakistan in a result that should go down as an upset of seismic proportions.

The Afghan players promptly carried out a victory lap to acknowledge the support of the huge number of fans among whom were native Afghans who flew down from different parts of the world. "You should know what is happening back home Afghanistan... They are bursting crackers," said Noor Ahmad, the teenage mystery spinner and one of the architects of Monday's win.
