Maharashtra members in World Cup squad to be feted

The Maharashtra Government has decided to felicitate the players from the state who were part of the victorious Indian women's team. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will honour them at a function in Mumbai on November 7.

Vice-captain and opener Smriti Mandhana, batter Jemimah Rodrigues and spinner Radha Yadav were among the playing members of the 15-player squad that created history by winning the WWC by beating South Africa in the final on Sunday (November 2). All three players were bornn in Mumbai.

Amol Muzumdar (head coach) and Aavishkar Salvi (bowling coach), both former Mumbai players, will be among those to be felicitated by the State Government. Muzumdar is a Mumbai cricket legend and Salvi, a former Mumbai bowler, played for India in four ODIs.

Mamta Shirsulla and Purva Kate, both masseuses from Mumbai, were also part of the support staff and will be honoured as well, along with Aniruddha Deshpande, the team's performance analyst, who hails from Amravati.
