

Top batting performances
Ravichandran Smaran and Karun Nair's good form continued in the ongoing Ranji Trophy as they put Karnataka in a strong position against Chandigarh in Hubballi. The hosts, who were 64/3 at one stage, ended the day at 294/5 thanks to Smaran's unbeaten 110 and Nair's 95.
Centuries from Baba Indrajith and C Andre Siddarth helped Tamil Nadu stage a strong recovery in their match against Uttar Pradesh in Coimbatore. Struggling at 71/4 at one stage, Tamil Nadu ended the day at 282/5 thanks to Indrajith's 128 not out and Siddarth's 121 as they added 211 for the fifth wicket.
Arshin Kulkarni's 133 and Prithvi Shaw's 74 helped Maharashtra have a productive opening day against Punjab in Chandigarh. Kulkarni and Shaw put on a 144-run opening stand before Punjab fought back with regular strikes. Maharashtra ended the day at 275/5, with Jalaj Saxena having retired hurt after facing only two deliveries.
Sharandeep Singh kept Jharkhand afloat in their game against Andhra despite the visitors striking at regular intervals to stall the home team's progress in Jamshedpur. Sharandeep scored 115 while the rest of the batters fell after getting off to starts. They ended the day at 259/6, with KV Sasikanth bagging three wickets.
Jaymeet Patel's 100 and Abhishek Desai's 99 helped Gujarat finish at 318/7 on Day 1 of their match against Uttarakhand in Dehradun. Desai's knock guided Gujarat even as they lost wickets at the other end. When he fell one short of 100, Gujarat were 159/5 and latter slipped to 179/6. But Jaymeet's fine hundred, and his 139-run stand with Kshitij Patel (59*) helped Gujarat end the day on a strong note.
Musheer Khan, Akhil Herwadkar and Siddhesh Lad scored 80s as Mumbai finished the day strongly at 317/3 against Puducherry at the Wankhede stadium. Musheer got out for 84, while Herwadkar fell for 86. Lad was unbeaten on 80 at Stumps.
Anuj Tiwary's 162 led a powerful batting show from Chhattisgarh against Himachal Pradesh as they ended the day at 319/3 in Nadaun. Aayush Pandey scored 59 and Sanjeet Desai was unbeaten on 76, lending solid support to Tiwary who registered his career-best knock.
Centuries from Sachin Yadav and Kunal Singh Rathore helped Rajasthan to a strong start on the opening day of their match against Delhi in Rajsamand. Yadav scored 130 while Rathore got 102 as they put on a double century stand to help Rajasthan to 263/4 at Stumps.
Anil Parida's unbeaten 98 and Biplab Samantray's 92 helped Odisha stage a recovery against Nagaland in Bhubaneswar. Reduced to 34/4, the hosts ended the day at 243/7 thanks to Parida and Samantray, who added 179 for the fifth wicket.
Prerak Mankad and Arpit Vasavada scored 80s while Jay Gohil registered a half-century as Saurashtra ended Day 1 at 317/4 against Goa in Rajkot. Mankad was unbeaten on 88 while Vasvada scored 81.
Baba Aparajith's 81 not out and Abijith Praveen's 60 shored up Kerala's total on Day 1 after they were reduced to 105/6 by Madhya Pradesh in Indore. Kerala ended the day at 246/7 thanks to Aparajith and Praveen's 122-run stand for the seventh wicket.
Top bowling performances
Rahul Rathee's four-wicket haul restricted Services to 205 but the visitors hit back strongly against Haryana in Rohtak thanks to Amit Shukla's inspired spell. After finishing just a touch over 200, Services reduced Haryana to 20/5 on a 15-wicket opening day, with Shukla bagging all the wickets to end the day with figures of 6-5-1-5.
Ninad Rathva's five-wicket haul ensured a quick end to Vidarbha's first innings as they were bowled out for 169 in Nagpur. Yash Rathod's 40 not out was the highest score for the hosts. Baroda were 70/2 in reply at the end of the day's play, with Nachiket Bhute bagging both wickets.
Raj Choudhary's four-wicket haul helped Railways bowl Tripura out for only 136 in the game in Valsad. Vijay Shankar top-scored with 44 and Babul Dey scored 42 but none of the other batters came up with anything of merit. Railways then took the lead thanks to Kush Marathe's 73 not out and Mohammad Saif's 66 not out as they ended the day at 149/2.
In a manic Day 1 in Jammu, as many as 16 wickets went down as the hosts staged a strong comeback after getting bowled out for 170. Tanay Thyagarajan and Kartikeya Kak bagged three apiece to restrict Jammu & Kashmir despite Abid Mushtaq's fighting 57. Hyderabad then slipped to 88/6 as Auqib Nabi bagged three wickets and Sunil Kumar picked up two.
Mohammed Shami picked up a couple of wickets, along with Mohammed Kaif, while Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal pocketed three as Assam were restricted to 194/8 in the 77 overs bowled on Day 1 in Kalyani. Swarupam Purkayastha top-scored for Assam with 62.
