Melbourne Renegades comfortably beat Sydney Thunder at the Drummoyne Oval to move to second on the WBBL 2025 standings. A collective bowling performance from the Renegades knocked Thunder over for just 64 before the visitors cruised to victory with eight wickets and 8.5 overs to spare. The result also meant that the Renegades did the double over the Thunder this season.

Georgia Voll got the Thunder off to a quick start with two boundaries off Milly Illingworth. But the bowler had the last laugh with the wicket of Voll. Chais Bekker took the big wicket of captain Phoebe Litchfield as Thunder were in early trouble. She followed it up with the wicket of Tahlia Wilson in her next over as Renegades began to boss the game. Alice Capsey picked up two wickets in the 10th over to further derail the Thunder before Georgia Wareham (3 for 12) did the same feat a few overs later. Sophie Molineux then had Shabnim Ismail stumped as the Thunder folded for 64. Only two of their batters managed to reach double digits.

The Renegades had an early jolt with the wicket of Courtney Webb and lost Emma de Broughe after a brief stand with Molineux. But Molineux (29 off 22) and Capsey (24 off 20) had no troubles chasing down the paltry score, scoring boundaries in almost every over to canter home in a jiffy.

Brief Scores: Sydney Thunder 64 in 17 overs (Heather Knight 20, Anika Learoyd 13; Georgia Wareham 3-12, Alice Capsey 2-12) lost to Melbourne Renegades 68/2 in 11.1 overs (Sophie Molineux 29*, Alice Capsey 24) by eight wickets

A freakish knock from Marizanne Kapp kept Brisbane Heat winless in the competition as they went down by 18 runs against Melbourne Stars. Kapp hammered a thrilling 93* off just 51 balls to power her team to 171/8 - a total that didn't even look remotely possible when they were reeling at 44/6 in the eighth over. At the end of the 13th over, they had dragged themselves to 72/6 with the run rate still under six. That's when Kapp took charge with a six straight down the ground that finally helped her strike rate go beyond 100 after facing 31 deliveries.

After bringing up a fifty off 39 balls, Kapp went on a rampage smashing loads of boundaries at will to stun the opposition camp. As a result, 47 runs came in the final three overs that swung the momentum completely. Chasing their first win, Heat did get off to a decent start, knocking off 46 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. But the batting side were pegged back immediately when their set openers were dismissed in successive overs with Kapp dismissing Charli Knott.

From thereon, wickets fell at regular intervals that reduced Heat to 95/5 in the 13th over. Even though Georgia Redmayne tried to keep her side in the hunt, no one in that lineup could even remotely replicate Kapp's efforts. Eventually, Heat succumbed to their fifth straight loss as they fell short by 18 runs.

Brief scores: Melbourne Stars 171/8 in 20 overs (Marizanne Kapp 93*, Danielle Gibson 30; Nadine de Klerk 3/24) beat Brisbane Heat 153/9 in 20 overs (Charli Knott 31; Sophie Day 3/28) by 18 runs
