The National Sports Council on Wednesday formed a five-member independent probe committee to investigate allegations of widespread irregularities in the Bangladesh Cricket Board's 2025 election.
NSC announced the decision through an official notification days after Tamim Iqbal led a request for investigation into last year's BCB elections claiming that 50 out of 76 clubs in the capital supported the call for a probe .
Following that move, the Divisional councillors and former cricket organisers also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in councillor nominations, the formation of ad-hoc committees and the alleged misuse of authority by officials involved in the election process and submitted la etter to NSC.
NSC Executive Director (Joint Secretary) Md Doulotuzzaman Khan signed the order and asked the committee to submit its report to the State Minister for Youth and Sports within 15 working days.
Retired Supreme Court judge AKM Asaduzzaman will head the committee. Other members are Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md Selim Fakir, Joint Commissioner (DB Admin & South) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Nasirul Islam, sports journalist ATM Sayeed Uzzaman and Supreme Court advocate Barrister Saleh Akram Samrat.
The committee will collect documents and evidence related to the complaints and take statements from relevant individuals and organizations involved in the election process. It will examine whether the councillor nomination process was conducted in accordance with the BCB constitution and applicable laws and regulations.
The committee may also seek explanations from concerned clubs, organizations and individuals. The body has been authorized to co-opt experts if necessary for the investigation and is expected to make recommendations to ensure greater transparency in future BCB elections.
