A running log of all Code of Conduct breaches, fines and sanctions through IPL 2026

Shreyas Iyer fined again for slow over rate

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined for a slow over-rate during their match against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. They also had to bowl the last couple of overs with only four players outside the circle.

As it was PBKS' second such offence this season, Iyer was handed a fine of INR 24 lakh. The rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, have also been fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fees, whichever is lower.

Match 6: KKR v SRH | 2 April, 2026

Abhishek fined, handed one demerit point

Sunrisers Hyderabad's Abhishek Sharma was fined 25% of his match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 2.

The 25-year-old admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the sanction. While the exact actions that attracted the penalties were not clarified, they may relate to Abhishek showing visible dissent after being ruled out following a contentious catch.

Cricbuzz's commentators described the dismissal as follows:

8.4 Blessing Muzarabani to Abhishek Sharma, out Caught by Varun Chakaravarthy!! Loud cheer goes around Eden Garden. Second wicket in the over. Muzarabani is doing the job for KKR. Kishan and Abhishek both back in the hut. The home side are right back in the game and the jubilation is quite evident. 112ks slower short of length delivery, right at the batter and Abhishek did not have much space to play the pull, but he still manages to hit it flat towards deep square leg. The ball was dying on Varun but he does extremely well. For someone who is not known for his fielding, this is a terrific catch - he quickly moves to his right, bends down low and scoops it centimeters above the ground. No fifty for Abhishek as well.

Additionally, Cricbuzz's correspondent at the venue, Aadya Sharma, noted that Abhishek was unhappy with the decision and gestured as he walked off.

Match 4: PBKS v GT | 31 March, 2026

Shreyas Iyer fined for PBKS's slow over-rate

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the game against Gujarat Titans at New Chandigarh on Tuesday, March 31.

Iyer was fined under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct for a minimum over-rate offence after the first innings stretched to nearly two hours, well beyond the mandated one hour and 30 minutes within which the 20th over must begin.

The Kings conceded 14 extras, including 11 wides and a no-ball, which further lengthened the innings. Consequently, the Kings had to also contend with having an extra fielder in the inner circle for the final over.
