Australia held their nerve on a tense fifth day morning at the Gabba, Brisbane to beat Pakistan by 39 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The visitors fell agnosingly short of the 490-run target after a brilliant 71-run ninth wicket stand between Man of the Match Asad Shafiq (137) and Yasir Shah (33). Mitchell Starc was the pick of the Australian bowlers taking 4 for 119, including the prize scalp of Shafiq with a ripsnorter.
