Three hours before the scheduled toss time, Kolkata was hit by a heavy thunderstorm accompanied by a gusty wind. It relented for a while in between but with an hour to go for toss, there was steady rain once again. The entire ground was under covers ensuring that a delay was inevitable. The intensity of the shower even raised thoughts of a washout. None of it though had done anything to dim the spirits of the people coming in. They were milling around and filled the stands up, waiting for rain to clear soon. As soon as it relented, there was little time wasted in getting the game underway. A near full house and a loudly vocal weekend crowd wasn't left disappointed as the home team bid for a place in the play-offs.
