PLAYER OF THE SERIES
Both teams weren’t at full strength, but that created opportunities for fringe players to step up. A few grabbed their chances impressively, while others couldn’t quite make their mark. That wraps up the tour. The T20 leagues take centre stage from tomorrow, and you can join us for all the updates and reactions. Until next time, goodbye and stay safe..
Keshav Maharaj | South Africa captain: It's a wonderful opportunity for these youngsters to understand what international cricket is about. I think coming here, not a lot of people gave us credit with the young side that we had, but to see the hunger, desire and passion which you know to come back from 2-1 and clinch the series is super special. It just shows the depth in our system and how well the youngsters are sort of putting their hands up. Like I said, I think going 2-1 down, probably not our best starting display, but to see the youngsters come through and put in two really good performances with the bat, I think as a captain, as a coaching staff, I think you can be really happy. We don't have the experience here, but to see how the guys played, it just looked like, it was easy transition into international cricket despite some pressure behind them.
James Neesham | New Zealand captain: Yeah, it was obviously a tough start and then obviously fought back in games two and three to go 2-1 up. But yeah, unfortunately, a couple of subpar performances there at the back end of the series, which is disappointing. It's been a long summer. It's been going right from October. (there's been a number of players that have had opportunities across all formats, how important is that for New Zealand?) Yeah, it's been a long. I'm looking forward to my six-day at home since October, I think. So, yeah, I think that's just the nature of the scheduling these days. There's cricket on at all times of the year. So, yeah, it was a good opportunity here with a few guys absent to blood some young guys. And I think we saw some experience gained, some tough options, some good moments. And I think everyone that was young and came into the series will probably take away some experience to make themselves better. (anything else from these particular players that they will take away moving forward to next summer?) I just think, yeah, I mean, I thought we batted and bowled okay. I thought the fielding was probably a little bit below par, especially tonight. Under lights, it's never easy. So, yeah, I think, you know, there's all facets of the game you can look at. I think, you know, South Africa brought a quality bowling attack. They brought an inexperienced band line-up, but a quality bowling attack to the shores. So I think a few batters probably got a good taste of, you know, what the next level up is like.
Connor Esterhuizen | Player of the Match and Series: I think the nice thing was I got to come in and play with some freedom. We got such a nice platform from the guys up top with wickets in hand. So I got to come in and be free and express myself a little bit, which was quite nice. (which shot he loved the most?) I'd say the one over cover probably. It was just an instinct thing. I don't know how it happened, but it just was quite nice. (what was the chat in the middle?) In my mind, well, I think straight away early on, the openers assessed that 160 was competitive. The more myself and Fori (Forrester) were out there, we probably said 170 was a good score. We happened to get 187 or whatever it was, which was great at the end of the day. (what adjustments did he make?) I think from the first one [game], as you said, it was a bit of a graft. You have to keep the scoreboard ticking, maybe a few more dots. And you'd be used to T20 cricket, whereas here it was more free-flowing. It felt like the ball travelled quite nicely, and the field was, the outfield was quick. So it was a nice build-up. You have to be in strong positions, have a good technique. And that does set you in good stead in T20 cricket, I think. (does playing four-day games help?) Absolutely. I mean, it keeps you hitting balls, getting reps. And yeah, so it's a great back-to-basics kind of format, which helps you in T20 cricket. (what does it mean for him? Debuting in the series?) I think it means everything. The pinch-me moments, as I've said before, when you sit back and have chats as a kid around the table and you dream about playing for your country. Some guys get to go on and do it, and I'm in a fortunate position where I can. I was that guy that us kids spoke about. So it's a really special feeling, and yeah, quite humbling. (does anything standout?) Sure, a lot of things stand out, I must be honest. But I absolutely love my time playing the series. I love the country of New Zealand. And I think just the memories made with a good team after a nice series win.
22:34 Local Time, 09:34 GMT, 15:04 IST: South Africa seal a comfortable win, completing a superb comeback from 2-1 down to clinch the series 3-2. New Zealand were never really in the chase. Clarke fell early, and although Robinson and Cleaver stitched a brief partnership, they failed to capitalise on the powerplay. Kelly, meanwhile, struggled to find any fluency. The only real resistance came through Bevon Jacobs and Neesham, who put together a fighting 50-plus stand for the fifth wicket. But just as things threatened to get interesting, Baartman returned to break the partnership by removing Jacobs. Neesham battled on till the final over, but with too much left to do, the result was never in doubt. South Africa’s bowlers were outstanding, led by the trio of Baartman, Coetzee and Subrayen. The pacers hit the deck hard and consistently troubled the batters, while Subrayen controlled the middle overs with a tight, economical spell. Stay tuned for the presentations..

Mulder to James Neesham, out Caught by Connor Esterhuizen!! That turned out to be an excellent review. The appeal was not a confident one from Connor Esterhuizen. But Maharaj challenged the decision as he had both reviews up his sleeve. Full delivery down leg, Neesham looks to help it along but gets a thin nick through to the keeper. UltraEdge shows a spike and Neesham has to walk back. James Neesham c Connor Esterhuizen b Mulder 24(24) [4s-2],

Gerald Coetzee to Cole McConchie, out Caught by Mulder!! Coetzee reaping the rewards in his final over. Second wicket for him. Another very full delivery which McConchie can't get under, he lofts it towards long-on but not enough to clear Mulder, who settles well inside the rope and takes it calmly. The writing is on the wall for New Zealand now. Cole McConchie c Mulder b Gerald Coetzee 1(2)

Gerald Coetzee to James Neesham, 1 run, run-out chance missed. High full toss and Neesham looks to swing it down the ground, gets it high on the bat and the ball lands in front of mid-off. Neesham gives up as he goes for the single but Maharaj's throw is not on target
