16:24 Local Time, 05:24 GMT, 10:54 IST: Persistent drizzle in Sydney and the game has been called off. The points will be shared. Hobart Hurricanes (13 points) become the first team to progress to the playoffs but they'll be eyeing a top-two finish. Sydney Sixers move to the third spot with two more round-robin matches left for them. The clash between two teams in the top half of the table promised to be a mouth-watering one. However, we could witness only 5 overs. There was movement in the air and off the deck, the bowling was good and stroke-making wasn't straightforward for the Babar-Smith duo. Rain has played spoilsport here in Sydney but there's one more BBL game lined up today - Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers. See you there..
15:30 Local Time, 04:30 GMT, 10:00 IST: We've lost one hour to rain now. The covers are still in place and the wait continues. The forecast isn't very promising either.
Sam Curran: Arrived a couple of days into Melbourne. Good win for the guys there. Brought the English weather with me here, so hopefully it goes away and we can get a win on the board. (ILT20 experience) It was good, a really quick tournament. Annoying that I couldn't play the whole Big Bash but I committed to that and very proud to take the Desert Vipers to the win there which was cool. Good win. My first experience of the Big Bash in Melbourne the other day which was really cool. Haven't played much at the SCG, what a stadium. (What are you going to bring to the Sixers?) It's interesting, my first time coming to a tournament where I haven't committed to the whole tournament, that's a little bit tricky. I know guys like Sean Abbott, Moises Henriques, there a few familiar faces. Just being able to come, show my experience and hopefully win, the table looks really tough. Hopefully the Sixers can get into those playoffs and win the trophy.
14:38 Local Time, 03:38 GMT, 09:08 IST: The entire square has been covered and it's a steady rain. This could be a pretty long delay.
14:30 Local Time, 03:30 GMT, 09:00 IST: Uh-oh, rain stops play. The batters jog to go to the dressing room while the Hurricanes players walk off slowly. The covers come on. "It looks as heavy as it's been today. it was quite heavy before the first ball, it stopped and then came down again. It's going to keep the moisture in the wicket. Finchy lied to me telling that it's a good pitch. It's going all over the place (chuckles)," says Matthew Wade who's mic'd up. "Both teams will be relatively happy. It's not like we have bowled poorly, they've played alright. With the amount of batting they've got at the back end, I'm sure they're quite happy to try and hit in the last 7 or 8 overs when the ball gets a little bit older. It'll be nice to get some inroads soon but you just got to be patient. We just got to stay to to the top of the stumps and hopefully they make a mistake like last over and one goes to hand. (On Stanlake) He was really unlucky (to miss a few games), we just felt that we needed the extra batter after the game in Geelong. We felt a little bit light with the bat. He's done nothing wrong in the last two years. We are really lucky to have a great player who is ready to come in and play a role. The Thunder game was probably our best batting performance for the whole year. We have been a bit up and down a little bit. This is an important game for us the way the table is shaping up. If we can get this one out of the way, we start to look at that top-two," he adds.
