PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's all from our side from this game. We'll be back tomorrow for the Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers clash. Goodbye for now!
Chris Green | Player of the Match: First one was good, second one was lucky, third one was good. Looks like he's (Sandhu) been bowling hard into the wicket, so setting up straight and reacting to the length that came off felt good. It’s probably long overdue for me personally, but it was great to contribute to the win. I think with the rain, the ball started sliding on a little bit. Sandhu obviously bowled really well, but if you can just hit the ball in the middle of the bat, you get rewarded. This is a different wicket to what we’re used to. Over the last few seasons, the ball’s been coming on nicely, and you get rewarded for timing it well, with the ball shooting off the outfield. I really enjoyed myself. I thought we were a bit stiff to lose a surge over, very stiff with that catch. I don’t know where benefit of the doubt stands these days, but for him to call that from 100 metres away, good on him. But it worked out well for us. After that surge over, Maddinson got a couple of sixes away and we were able to stay with the rain, keep hitting boundaries, and get a much-needed win in front of some home fans who have been very dedicated all season. Very special. These guys turn up year after year, through thick and thin. They’ve been fantastic. The support means so much. Last year we had a great season, this year it hasn’t quite been our season, but they continue to turn out and get behind us. It feels very special and an apology as well for it being a little too late from our side, but it’s still great to get a win at home. Yeah, that’s our goal now. We want to win the next one against the Sixers. They’ve got a great side on paper, and hopefully we can win at the SCG. We got a great win there last year in the finals, so that’ll be a really good challenge. It’s nice to knock out another team tonight as well.
22:42 Local Time, 11:42 GMT, 17:12 IST: A spectacular cameo by Green and a pivotal contribution by Maddinson has powered Sydney Thunder to a memorable win in Sydney. The Thunder neeeded 91 runs in 9 overs when rain arrived. As a result of that interupption, the target was revised to 140 in 16 overs. Once play resumed, Sandhu picked up a couple of wickets in quick succession, but Maddinson and Green had other ideas. Green took on Sandhu with a hat-trick of sixes and brought the equation back in their favour. The partnership for the 7th wicket proved to be crucial as Sydney Thunder got over the line in the final over of the run chase. Green has been adjudged the Player of the Match.
