PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's all from our side for tonight. We'll be back tomorrow with the live coverage of the Gulf Giants and MI Emirates clash! Goodbye!
Liam Livingstone | Player of the Match: I’ve said it a few times. I think the more opportunity I get to sort of read conditions and try and give myself a chance, the easier I find it. So, yeah, just being able to have a couple of balls to see what the pitch was playing like and sort of building an innings from there. I was a bit scratchy early on, but towards the end of the first five, I started to find my rhythm. Obviously at this ground there’s one short side, and it was downwind as well. So you’ve got to try and pick your bowlers, pick your ends as well. Certainly this was the sort of end to get me going. And then as you get towards the back end, you’ve got to try and take on both boundaries. I was pretty happy with the way I built the innings and then managed to finish it off at the end. I’m sure I’ll be at the other end at some point in this tournament watching him (Russell) go at it. It’s certainly nice to look around our dressing room and see the talent we’ve got in there, which is pretty nice to be a part of.
Sunil Narine | Abu Dhabi Knight Riders captain: The way we started off with the bat, I think Hales, he was good. And then the continuation with Livingstone and Rutherford, I think that partnership really set it first. I was trying to get it (600th wicket) in CPL. I forgot; it’s only after the game someone reminded me, so it’s good to reach it. I generally practice a lot, but I think it’s all about sticking to what you practice. I think the harder you work in practice, it makes it a little easier in the game. So I think it’s just trying to concentrate on what you do in practice and try to execute as best as possible. He (ajay Kumar) was excellent in the powerplay. I think bowling three overs in the powerplay against guys who are going after you after making 232, I think it’s brilliant. I think he has good qualities and he has a good slower ball. So I think he used it well tonight, so hopefully he learns from this and keeps going better and better for us in the tournament.
Tim Southee | Sharjah Warriorz captain: They are a dangerous batting line-up, the only way to stop them was by taking wickets. We were not able to do that in the middle overs and towards the back end. I think we were off with the ball, and in the field. Credit to the Knight Riders, they played really well. It's tough, players these days are getting better at hitting the yorkers, the margin for error is so small now. Guys are hitting the missed yorkers (full tosses) for sixes. We were bit off with the ball, which leaked a few too many runs in the end.
22:18 Local Time, 18:18 GMT, 23:48 IST: The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have begun their campaign in emphatic style, cruising to an easy 39-run victory. Livingstone was the star of the show, unleashing a blistering knock that lifted the Knights to a towering 233, punctuated by a ruthless 33-run assault on Pretorius in the final over of the innings. The Warriorz were on the back foot from the outset and never found any real rhythm in the chase. Tim David provided a brief spark with his power hitting, and Pretorius chipped in with a late cameo, but with the target far out of reach, their efforts proved futile. The Knight Riders’ bowlers complemented the batting performance perfectly, with most of them contributing in a disciplined and collective effort. Stay tuned for the presentations..
