Bangladesh vs Ireland, 1st T20I

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Bangladesh were insipid with both bat and ball today. Ireland capitalised on the chinks in the armour in the opposition side and were overall clinical today. Bangladesh's lean-run in T20Is continue as they have lost four games on the trot. Ireland will take a lot of confidence from today's performance after they were beaten 2-0 by the hosts in Tests. The series is set up nicely. Join us for the second T20I from the same venue day after tomorrow. Until next time, goodbye and cheers!
Paul Stirling: We turned up and played really well today. That's as close to full-strength we have had in a long time, some of the senior pros were back and that helped. We were excellent in terms of the first 35 overs of the match. There are not many places where I can really poke a hole in, we were a bit sloppy towards the end and a few dropped catches are a bit of concern. We won our last game here as well so we have won two on the bounce here. We will take the momentum into the third T20I.
Matthew Humphreys | Player of the Match: (On how he managed to negate the dew factor) I was struggling with my grip but I resorted to bowling my arm balls, there was swing in the air and that helped me. (On his arm delivery) I have been working on it for a while especially with the new ball, it helps under the lights and with the wet ground, it definitely helps the reaction off the surface. We were brilliant at the top, they lost four wickets inside the powerplay and we were in a very strong position by then.
Litton Das: I thought the bowlers did a great job, especially Fizz the way he bowled. Still, if we had bowled a little better, we could have restricted them for 25-30 runs less. I was very happy with Hridoy back in the team, we need him and he batted really well for us. I still believe in my team, if we play our game, we can beat them. I'm very happy with the way Hridoy batted, I want him to continue in the same way for the rest of the series.
21:42 Local Time, 15:42 GMT, 21:12 IST: It has been a terrific win for Ireland as they have registered their first win in T20Is since September 2024. After being inserted into bat, Ireland responded well. Tector's 69* (45) and a few cameos from others enabled the visitors to post a strong total on the board. In reply, the visitors were on the money with the new ball. Bangladesh lost four wickets inside the powerplay and that spelled doom for them. They were always playing the chasing game after that. Towhid Hridoy batted with a lot of composure as well as flair but he kept running out of partners from the other end. His 83* (50) was the only bright spot for the hosts with the bat. The fact that only two other Bangladeshi batters apart from him got into double-digits tells you the story. Humphreys, Adair and McCarthy were the pick of the bowlers for Ireland. Stick around for the presentations...

Curtis Campher to Towhid Hridoy, FOUR, back of a length delivery, Towhid Hridoy flat-bats it towards long-on. The fielder in the deep makes a mess of it to concede a boundary. It's an emphatic victory for Ireland, their first win in T20Is in 2025. Beaming smiles on the faces of the Irish players. A well-deserved win indeed to go 1-0 up in the 3-match series
