PLAYER OF THE MATCH
So India go 1-0 up. The 2nd game is on the 23rd of this month. Do join us then. For now it's bye bye.
Jemimah Rodrigues | Player of the Match: (on not wasting good form) 100 percent. That was my mindset. Jab acche lag rahe tho, form itna extend karo, that jab nahi lag rahe (When it looks good, extend the form so much. When it doesn't look good, makes up for it), makes up for it. That was my simple mindset. (probably need to keep 3-4 fielders to prevent the late-cut) I will still find the gap. Yeah, I think for me it was important to understand the conditions. To be honest, it was slightly sticky. Not as flat as we thought it was. But I was just in good touch. So, I just wanted to continue that. And my mindset is simple. I feel when I bat the best when I am just blank and react to the ball. And that's what I was doing. I didn't think of the score either. Just thought of reacting to the ball and playing according to the merit. I think we have been doing really well. What we have spoken is simple. What has happened in the past has happened. Every day is a new day. For us, it's now what's next. It's the 2026 World Cup for us. Every game is important and every game is a preparation for that and we want to win that. (on Gimhani) No, actually our video analyst Annie Sir told us please go watch her videos because she is a mystery spinner. A very good, I would say, a rising star for Sri Lanka. Just some more experience and I think she is going to do it well. But yeah, I just stuck to my strengths. I think I just watched the video so I knew her action before and what she bowls. And then I just reacted to the ball where she was bowling, I was trying to hit it over that fielder.
Harmanpreet Kaur | India captain: (happy with the performance tonight?) Yeah, with bat and ball, yes. Fielding is something we are really working hard, but I don't know why we keep dropping catches. Next match we will come up with even better approach. (on the conditions today) Yeah, it's wet. No doubt about it. But it's not excuse. We know these conditions are going to be there. But yeah, I think that is something which we really need to think about it because at crucial matches, these things can cost us. But yeah, next match, I am sure we will come up with a better approach. (up for batting first?) Well, we are also playing after almost a month. So, we don't want to unnecessarily challenge ourselves. I think I feel whatever is the condition, just think how we can do better for our team. So, I think today was something we wanted to bowl first and then chase and I think that went really well. So, I don't want to unnecessarily keep challenging ourselves. So, I think it's better to go how situation and how we can show a better approach. (happy with the way team performed?) Yeah, definitely.
Chamari Athapaththu | Sri Lanka captain: 120 is not good enough total to defend. We have to bounce back in the next game. We have done so many mistakes in the middle and I feel we have to play our positive cricket in the middle. That's the most important thing. (on the conditions, if it went against them?) Yeah, definitely. But the thing is we have to adjust to those conditions and we can't blame the conditions. So, as professional cricketers, we have to play according to these conditions. Hopefully, we can play our best cricket in the next couple of games. Actually, we need to improve a few areas, especially batting. So, we have to execute our right plan right time and we have to play our positive cricket in the middle. As a batting unit, we play a very defensive game. It's not good in this T20 format. So, we have to play our positive cricket in the next game. (on her taking more load in the coming games) Yeah, definitely. As a captain, I always try to lead from the front. Unfortunately, I got out early. But yeah, we have good youngsters. I always trust them and especially the selectors and the SLC give opportunity for the more young players in this tournament. So, I hope they will play their best cricket in the next couple of games.

22:01 Local Time, 16:31 GMT, 22:01 IST: A comprehensive win this for India. The bowlers did the job and then the batters had it easy. Smriti played a few lovely shots but Rodrigues stole the show with her deft glides and innovation. Sri Lanka were never in the game with the ball and the chinaman of Gimhani was taken for plenty. The dew didn't make their task any easier but there was hardly any firepower in their bowling and that should worry them for the rest of the series. India with an easy win as they go 1-0 up. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
