PLAYER OF THE MATCH
A good win for the Islamabad United and they move up to number 4 in the table. The second match of the day is coming up shortly. Switch tabs and enjoy all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
Shadab Khan | Islamabad United Captain | PotM - I think as an all-rounder, if one area works, it'll give you plenty of confidence. I've worked on the process and hopefully it'll go well. He's an exciting talent (on Sameer Minhas), the way he played at the U-19 level, he needed this platform to express himself. The way he played maturely was pleasing to see and I hope to see more from him. The ball flies here (at this venue), the powerplay was good and that gave me the cushion to pick and choose. Abrar and Usman were their key bowlers, we played the first two overs cautiously and then scored off them as well later.
Saud Shakeel | Quetta Gladiators Captain: I thought with the start we had, we could've scored 10 more runs. The ending was good, the pitch was difficult in the first innings and then got better. The partnership between Shadab and Sameer, they both played risk-free cricket and maintained momentum, that was the turning point. We said they needed to take chances, we needed 170-180 on this pitch.
17:51 Local Time, 12:51 GMT, 18:21 IST: A comprehensive win for Islamabad United, a win that was never in doubt once Minhas and Shadab joined forces. The pair added an unbroken 128-run stand for the third wicket, pivoting their team to their first win of the tournament. Gladiators needed their bowlers to be on point. Abrar struck twice in consecutive overs, but the rest of the attack was cannon fodder. Usman Tariq was handled effectively and the bowler didn't help his cause by dropping Shadab Khan very early. That proved to be a turning point as the Islamabad skipper set the tone with an attacking innings. Young opener Sameer Minhas was steady and then opened up. An 8-wicket win puts them back into the top half of the points table. Stay tuned for the presentations..
