George Simpson- Hayward was the last of under-arm spin bowlers. Though he under-armed the ball innocuously, he often deceived batsmen by pushing it through quicker rather than letting the ball hang in the air. He was also quite handy with the bat as evidenced by his 3 centuries and 9 fifties at the first-class level. With the ball, George Simpson-Hayward took 503 first-class wickets.

However, his Test career was restricted to just 5 matches. Outside of cricket, he was an impressive football full back.
