SUMMARY

Peter Lashley belongs to a rare breed of batsmen who are known for a moment that they created with the ball in hand. He was innocuous part-time medium-pacer who was mostly used as a filler bowler and his only Test wicket happened to be the great Geoffrey Boycott who could never digest that dismissal himself. As a batsman, Lashley was an attractive left-hander who did very well at First-class level but wasn’t the same force in Tests. He was by design a middle order batsman who became a makeshift opener later but neither of the roles yielded the desired success. Right from his younger days, Lashley was earmarked as one of Barbados’ finest talents and the pundits expected him to scale higher peaks for West Indies. Unfortunately, he was never able to reach the heights that he had managed to for Barbados. Apart from his batting skills, Lashley was also a dynamic fielder who was mighty effective close-in.
