Janaka Gunaratne is a senior Sri Lankan first-class cricketer, who has played over 100 first-class games. He is a batting all-rounder, who first made his debut in the 2000-2001 season. Since then he has played for quite a few teams including the Under-19 and Sri Lanka A sides. The other teams he has played for are Chilaw Marians Cricket Club, Moors Sports Club, North Central Province, Ruhuna, Sri Lanka Board President's XI and Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI.
His played his first T20 game for the Chilaw Marians in 2004. Later, he played an instrumental role for Ruhuna in the 2011 Inter-Provincial T20. He top-scored with 83 runs in the final against Wayamba. He hit the winning runs in the Super Over, thus earning the team a spot in the 2011 CLT20. He has scored close to 8000 first-class runs as of now. He also has over 250 first-class wickets.
