Shivam Dube (INR 5 Crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore)
IPL Auction: Who are Shivam Dube, Varun Chakravarthy and Prabhsimran Singh?
Shivam Dube is a medium pace all-rounder from Mumbai. He is a right-arm bowler and a left-handed batter. Tall and strong, he gave his reputation a massive uplift in the last one year with some big hitting in the Mumbai T20 league, followed by his consistent performances in the ongoing domestic season. However, despite his big-hitting abilities, his name didn't quite do the rounds in the maidans of Mumbai in age-group cricket.
Despite having helped his school - Hansraj Morarji - win the Under-14 Giles Shield, he had to miss five years of age-group cricket due to personal reasons. However, in under-23 cricket that he made a strong impression that prompted his promotion to Mumbai's senior side. And come 2018, not only did he become a stronger and a more dependable batsman for Mumbai, he also improved drastically as a bowler. He was consistent, disciplined and canny with his variations, which played a massive part in Mumbai's Vijay Hazare Trophy win.
He hit Pravin Tambe for 5 sixes in an over in the Mumbai T20 league and recreated the same in a Ranji Trophy match against Baroda's Swapnil Singh a day before the auction.
Vinayak Samant, Mumbai's coach, who was also Dube's coach in under-23 says, "His fitness has improve drastically. He can now bowl long spells. And a batsman, he has become more rounded. He can adjust his game according to the team's plans."
