Bangladesh newly appointed batting coach Mohammad Ashrafulis eyeing to work with batters on the mental side of their game, rather than the technical part, as he prepares to guide the batting unit in the upcoming home series against Ireland.

Bangladesh Cricket Board's appointment of Ashraful marks his return to the national dressing room after a gap of more than 11 years. Ashraful failed to make an international comeback as a cricketer after returning from an eight-year bandue to fixing issues.

Ashraful later told this website during an exclusive chatthat he is focusing on coaching as he believed that would pave his way to make a comeback at international stage.

"Alhamdulillah, I had actually been planning for the last two years that after leaving cricket, I want to stay on the field, and I want to come into coaching," Ashraful told Cricbuzz recently.

"I have got an opportunity and gained experience working for two seasons in Global Super League with Rangpur Riders and then I worked one year in BPL and now this year I am currently working in NCL (National Cricket League - country's traditional first-class tournament). I have actually played with everyone who is now in the national team whether it's international matches or domestic I have experience working with everyone," he said.

"So, it feels good; I am actually very happy that I will enter the Bangladesh dressing room again. Since I was in that dressing room as a player for 13 years and played under many coaches, I have seen a lot. So now that's what I will share with our players and it feels good," he said.

"The way I work now and with everyone what I try to share is why I became successful in my life and why I wasn't successful, how I became so consistent and what the reason behind inconsistency was and in this game you actually have to be mentally stronger than technically and these are the things I talk about with players, and that's what I will share in the national dressing room...If you can have a clear mind then your batting and performance become easier and these are the things I will work on," he said.

Ashraful added that he is not ready to make wholesale modifications in techniques considering players have their own style with the bat.

"No, that (trying to bring too much changes in technique) won't help actually because Chanderpaul played with such a stance and scoring thousands and thousands of runs. So how are they playing? Because they are mentally stronger," he said.

"In cricket what I believe is the more mentally strong they can be made, the freer they can be kept and those are the things I will actually try to help with," he said.

Ashraful said that he is confident with the Test squad as it is comparatively experienced while in T20Is they need to work on timing more than power.

"See, if you look overall, since it will start with a Test match, the Test team is actually a very experienced team. And Mushfiq is there, Shanto is there as captain and then you have Miraz, Litton, Mominul. So, the Test team is actually very experienced. I hope that it will be easy for me," said Ashraful.

"In T20Is, if you see our results, except for the last series, we had won four series in a row. But even in that area, maybe our batters got a lot of opportunities to show their performance. So, maybe I'll try to help with those things," he said.

"I think about working on cricketing shots because in international cricket, bowlers bowl at 140 kilometers per hour, so that kind of pace more than power-hitting timing is necessary. So maybe those are the things I'll share with everyone," he said.

Ashraful added he doesn't have any problem with senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin, who resigned a day after he was appointedas batting coach.

"My relationship is good with everyone, I'm not like that. My relationship with Salahuddin bhai is good. Salahuddin bhai worked; I was the captain then. So, no, definitely not like that," he concluded.
