Ryan Rickelton's century went in vain as Durban Super Giants beat MI Cape Town by 15 runs in a blockbuster SA20 opener in Newlands.
Chasing a daunting target of 233, Rickelton hammered five fours and 11 sixes during his 63-ball 113, adding 60 runs for the second wicket with Reeza Hendricks (28 off 21) and 76 for the third with Jason Smith (41 off 14).
But the opener fell in the final four to Eathan Bosch, who finished with 4 for 46, his timely strikes, including that of a rampant Smith in the 14th over and two in the final over, ensuring that MICT fell short of the target.
Earlier in the day, DSG opted to bat first and openers Kane Williamson (40 off 25) and Devon Conway (64 off 33) added 96 runs for the first wicket, including 68 in the powerplay, before Tristan Luus struck gold with Williamson's wicket.
Jos Buttler and Conway then fell in quick succession, but cameos from Aiden Markram (35 off 17) and Evan Jones (33* off 14) ensured that 52 runs came off the last 3 overs.
Brief Scores: Durban Super Giants 232/5 (Conway 64; Linde 3-46) beat MI Cape Town (Rickelton 113; Bosch 4-46) by 15 runs
