PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's it from game 1 of the SA20. We will be back with more. Do join us then. For now it's bye bye from all of us here.
Ryan Rickelton | Player of the Match: Different game from both teams, I suppose. I don't think both teams hit their straps tonight, but, elated to get a score, I suppose, especially after the last few months, but obviously disappointing to be on the wrong side of the result. But in saying that, lots of positive for the group. Yeah, and at some points you have to make a decision, that Noor over I felt was a bit of a turning point where we lost a bit of momentum, where you kind of just had to make a decision. We know why he is bowling, he is there to get either myself or Nicky out but there's no moment to relax especially in a 230 game I guess. (did you enjoy it?) I did, yeah. I mean, I haven't been too chuffed, I guess, with my cricket the last few months, but, I mean, it's awesome just to be out here, a new team again, and just to be back out there at Newlands on Boxing Day, sold out, special. And it's just nice to be out there with my mates, having a good time, and obviously batting a little bit. (shouldn't be too upset as it's a great atmosphere on Boxing Day) Definitely not. Very different to last year's Boxing Day game, I think I was out twice in the Test match, but, yeah, chuffed to be here tonight. Obviously nice just to find the middle but a lot to look forward to.
Aiden Markram | DSG captain: Entertaining game, eh? I'm sure everyone would love to watch that. It was high-scoring, on-the-edge-of-your-seat sort of stuff, with a bit of to-and-fro that gets you quite nervous at times, but chuffed that the boys could get over the line. It felt like enough, yeah. I mean, there's a bit of momentum. The boys are heating up. A little bit nervous, to be honest. So, we needed, at the back end, 2-3 good overs to get the sort of result back into our favor, and those 2-3 overs came, fortunately. Yeah, it's a great start. Great venue, like I mentioned earlier. Full house. And a really entertaining game, so I'm pleased to be a part of such a game, to start the comp, and I'm sure it's going to create a lot of hype moving forward. Yeah, they played really well with bat in hand. Obviously, a few areas we can touch up on, and didn't help ourselves with one or two moments out there as well, so if you get a little bit more clinical, stuff like that, I think you maybe get home a bit more comfortably, and with a few less grey hairs, so those are the things we'll address, but yeah, you still doff your cap off - they batted really well.
Rashid Khan | MICT captain: Great game of cricket especially for the fans. Unlucky to be part of the losing side, but I feel like you won't ask for a better Boxing Day than this. Good crowd they came in, I hope they have enjoyed and they had a good time, but overall I feel like 15 runs shorter, but in the bowling I think we have given those 15 to 20 runs and I think we would have restricted that less than 220, I think 215 would have been easily chaseable. (on Rickelton's knock) Amazing, best innings. Last year he played as well, but the way he played today was unbelievable and that's how he is famous for I feel like and the way he goes there, takes a little bit of time and the way he plays the spin and fast bowler, unbelievable innings. (on DSG) I think they batted really well, they started their innings so well with the batting and that's something which gives them the kind of momentum they want and we all know how strong their top 5 are and at the same time I think we have the same, batting unit, bowling unit, but that's just T20, the quicker you get the momentum and you don't lose it, the better you perform. (on the crowd tonight) Quite unlucky with the result, but we have given some good entertainment to the crowd who came in numbers and supported us and it's always great to be here, back in Cape Town and playing in front of this beautiful stadium and in the crowd. So always your support is amazing and hopefully we'll try our best to keep the rest of the games on the winning side.
21:03 Local Time, 19:03 GMT, 00:33 IST: A fantastic game to start the SA20 for the 2025-2026 season. A chase which was lit up by Rickelton's brilliant 100. The ball flew from his bat and MICT helped him too with sloppy fielding. He should have been out before his 100 but Maphaka overstepped and then Eathan Bosch dropped him. But that shouldn't take away from the quality of the knock. Jason Smith gave Rickelton good company with a 14-ball 41 and during that stand, both batters were going berserk. Noor and Maphaka bowled tight overs and that turned the pressure up on MICT. In the end, a superb 19th over from Maphaka left enough for Eathan Bosch who finished it off. He took a four-fer and it's a winning start for his side. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff....
