VHT: Sarfaraz slams 75-ball 157; Padikkal cracks third ton

Best batting performances

Sarfaraz Khan smashed 14 sixes on his way to a scintillating 157 off just 75 balls in Mumbai's gargantuan effort of 444/8 in 50 overs against Goa. Musheer, Sarfaraz's brother, got a half-century while Hardik Tamore hit 53 off just 28 to propel Mumbai further in their 87-run win.

Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a century too, going a touch slower than Sarfaraz did for Mumbai, but created the same impact on the result. Gaikwad's 113-ball 124 and a few notable efforts from the lower-order powered the team to 331/7 - a total steep enough to earn them a 129-run victory over Uttarakhand.

In Alur, Sahab Yuvraj (91 off 99) and Ravi Singh (72 off 69) carried Railways up to second spot in Group D with strong performances in a tense chase of Gujarat's 283 as they won by four wickets.

Biplab Samantray scored a 74-ball 72 in Odisha's big win over Delhi, that was largely set up by his bowlers. (More on that below). But before Rajesh Mohanty and Debabrata Pradhan could share five wickets between them, they scored vital runs from No.9 and 10. Mohanty made 17* off 12 while Pradhan hit two sixes and a four in a nine-ball 21*.

Haryana skipper Ankit Kumar led from the front in chase against Services as he outshone Irfan Ali (103 off 113) with an unbeaten 144 off 123 - a knock laced with 14 fours and four sixes. He enabled a successful chase of Services' 275/3 in just 43.1 overs.

Chhattisgarh powered their way to a mammoth 229-run victory over Sikkim, and it was a two-part assault. The first belonged to the top-order where Vikalp Tiwari smashed nine fours and six sixes on his way to a 57-ball 117. Captain Amandeep Khare got 83 off 59 while Aayush Pandey hit 86 off 104. They finished with 355/3 and then the bowlers swung into action.

Utkarsh Singh (123* off 120) and Shikhar Mohan (90 off 108) led Jharkhand's charge in what was Tamil Nadu's third defeat in four games in the competition.

In a thrilling finish in Ahmedabad, Baba Aparajith (126 off 116), Krishna Prasad (53 off 61) and Eden Apple Tom (40* off 18) orchestrated Kerala's two-wicket victory as they successfully chased down Rajasthan's 343/7 with a six on the last ball of the innings. This came after two Rajasthan batters had a good outing themselves as Karan Lamba scored an undefeated 119 and Deepak Hooda made 86.

Karnataka beat Puducherry through centuries from openers Mayank Agarwal (132 off 124) and Devdutt Padikkal (113 off 116). This is now Padikkal's third century of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Karun Nair swung for the fences too with a 34-ball 62* as Karnataka posted 363/4 and won by 67 runs.

Madhya Pradesh's Yash Dubey (105 off 97) and Shubham Sharma (71 off 75) pushed their team to a four-wicket win over Tripura despite an all-round show from Vijay Shankar, who slammed 91 off 98 in the first innings and returned to pick three wickets.

The Baroda-Hyderabad game in Rajkot witnessed five centurions. Baroda got the ball rolling with each of the top-three getting three figure scores. Nitya Pandya made 122 off 110, Amit Pasi smashed 127 off 93 and captain Krunal Pandya blazed away to an unbeaten 109 off just 63. That piled up a total of 417/4. In reply, Hyderabad's Abhirath Reddy hit 130 off 90 and Pragnay Reddy got 113 off 98, but Hyderabad eventually fell short by 37 runs.

In the other game at Rajkot, where rain had its say, Aryan Juyal's 140-ball 150 and Priyam Garg's 53-ball 52 gave Uttar Pradesh a win over Assam via VJD method. This was after Assam captain Sumit Ghadigaonkar slammed a ton and Sibsankar Roy got 82 to push the team to 308. UP however, snared the revised total.

Best bowling performances

Punjab's 25-year-old fast bowler Sukhdeep Bajwa ran through Himachal Pradesh's line-up with figures of 4/17 in 7.2 overs that laid the foundation for Punjab's big win.

Saurashtra medium-pacer Ankur Panwar eclipsed the efforts of Satyanarayana Raju (3-45) with a fifer and triggered Andhra's collapse in chase of Saurashtra's modest 254/7.

Odisha's Pradhan carried on from his late cameo with the bat to pick 3/28 in 7.3 overs - a spell that included wickets of Rishabh Pant and Harsh Tyagi, Delhi's best batter on the evening. Mohanty - who also chipped in with runs, picked two wickets, and as did off-spinner Sambit S Baral. Their effort nullified the first-innings four-wicket from Hritik Shoukeen.

If the batting havoc wasn't enough, Chattisgarh tormented Sikkim further. Defending 355/3, medium pacer Dev Aditya Singh and left-arm spinner Ajay Jadav Mandal picked four-wickets each as Sikkim folded for 126 in chase.

Darshan Nalkande led the way in Vidarbha's eight-wicket victory over Chandigarh with figures of 4 for 33 that allowed his team to bundle out the opposition for just 113.

Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar ran riot against Jammu & Kashmir, picking four wickets each to bowl them out for a paltry 63 in just 10.3 overs. Mukesh finished with 4/16 in 6 overs while Akash got to 4/32 in 8.4 overs.

Bihar offspinner Suraj Kashyap bagged a five-wicket haul to set up his team's comfortable eight-wicket win over Nagaland in the Plate division of the tournament.

Meghalaya fast bowler Akash Choudhary also picked five wickets as his team downed Arunachal Pradesh after the latter posted a lowly 189. That despite, a century from captain and opener Techi Doria.
