Anushka Sharma ruled out with injured hand

Anushka Sharma, the 22-year-old Gujarat Giants batter, has been ruled out of the game against Mumbai Indians after injuring her right hand ahead of their third league game of Women's Premier League 2026 against Mumbai Indians, which is set to be played on Tuesday at the DY Patil Stadium. She injured her hand while fielding against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, and will be out for 'a short period', the franchise confirmed.

"Anushka Sharma will be out of action for a short period as she recovers from a minor injury sustained while fielding during our match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday night. Anushka is under the close supervision of the team's medical staff and is progressing well. She will be a big miss for the side, but her health and long-term well-being remain our priority. The entire Gujarat Giants family is firmly behind her and looks forward to welcoming her back soon," the franchise said in a statement.

Ayushi Soni, the 25-year-old Delhi batter who has featured in one T20I, has been roped in as her replacement in the side for the game against MI on Tuesday. Anushka has travelled with the team for the game against MI, and was seen with a plaster on her right hand.

Anushka, marked her WPL debut, with a composed knock of 44 against UP Warriorz on Saturday, which laid the foundation of their 10-run win. In their next encounter against Delhi Capitals, she pulled off a stunning save on the boundary line, which played a part in the team's thrilling four-run victory.

Meanwhile, Hayley Matthews has returned to Mumbai Indians' side for the game against Giants, after missing the first two games due to a shoulder niggle. Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of the encounter since she is unwell.
