Australia take 1-0 lead
They have won by 134 runs and will probably come out on top if they try and defend this as well right away. That's how poor Sri Lanka have been. The visitors made only 99 for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. They need to put this behind them and come up with a massive performance in the second game.
Build up
Australia are all set to kickstart a home summer that looks to be extremely vital considering they will be hosting the World T20 in another 12 months. The Aussies had a pretty decent World Cup making it to the semifinals and then went onto regain the Ashes to ooze in confidence at the moment. But T20 is a format where they would love to reign supreme. And the preparations begin today with Sri Lanka visiting the shores for a short three-match series.
The focus once again shifts to David Warner and Steve Smith who enjoyed contrasting fortunes in the Ashes. The dynamic duo are all set to play at home for the first time since their comeback. With Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in the ranks as well, Australia are at full strength. Speaking of full strength, Sri Lanka look ready as well after some of their big names skipped the Pakistan tour. The fact that they managed to beat the World number one side with a depleted side shows that they are not going to be pushovers tonight.
Can Lasith Malinga still weave his old magic? Can Steve Smith find success in the shortest format as well to find a permanent spot in a batting line up that seems to have loads of options especially in the top order? There's so much to look forward to in Australia's first home game of the 2019-20 summer. Welcome to the live blog for this opening T20I.
