New Zealand win!
New Zealand win!
A memorable last-hour win by 101 runs. Pakistan's resistance came down to a 165-run stand between Mohammad Rizwan and Fawad Alam but New Zealand found a way to burst through the 165-run stand, like they so often do at home and sealed an important victory by 101 runs in the last hour of play. Courtesy this win, they rose to No. 1 in Test rankings for the first time in history and booked crucial points for a top-two finish in the World Test Championship.
Brief Scores: New Zealand 431 & 180/5 dec. beat Pakistan 239 & 271 (Fawad Alam 102, Mohammad Rizwan 60; Tim Southee 2-33, Kyle Jamieson 2-35) by 101 runs
WICKETNeil Wagner refuses to tire even on the fifth day. With two forward short legs, the left-arm pacer comes round the wicket and digs another short delivery to Fawad Alam, who looks to pull a delivery down the leg side but only gets an edge to the 'keeper. Both the set batsmen are out and the pressure has now shifted on the visitors to save the Test.
WICKETThe gritty fifth-wicket stand between Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan comes to an end. The latter is hit on the pads after the ball keeps slightly low after pitching and hits him around the knee region. The on-field umpire gives him not out but the 'keeper is convinced, "we gotta go (for the review)" and has the decision overturned. Kyle Jamieson with the wicket. The skipper is out for 60. Almost 25 overs to go. New Zealand need 5 wickets to win. Pakistan need 133 runs to win.
Hundred for Fawad Alam!
What a moment in Test cricket. This is only the second Test hundred for Fawad and his first since 2009. 10+ years between the hundreds. Rightly does a bit of gesturing to the dressing room to celebrate the moment. Younis Khan is pumped up too.The notebook is nowhere to be seen.
And the partnership keeps rolling, now at 150...
