Australia opt to bowl
It's bright and super sunny in Adelaide as the players get ready on the sidelines. Gill and Rohit amble out to the centre as the crowd greet them with booming cheers. Rohit to take strike
India are unchanged and will bat first again. Australia have made three changes. IN - Carey, Bartlett and Zampa. OUT - Philippe, Ellis and Kuhnemann.
Teams:
Australia (Playing XI): Mitchell Marsh(c), Travis Head, Matthew Short, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey(w), Cooper Connolly, Mitchell Owen, Xavier Bartlett, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill(c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul(w), Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj
Shubman Gill: We would have bowled first as well. Happy to bat first. Never easy when it rains, starting and stopping. The weather looks good today, hopefully no stoppages today. Batting first, hopefully we'll get plenty of runs on the board. And then get some movement under lights when we have the ball in our hand. We are going with the same team.
Mitchell Marsh: We are gonna bowl first. It was really pleasing (win in the 1st ODI). A lot of positives from last year. One of the better pitchers in the country this year. Everyone loves coming to play here. We always get amazing crowds, and hopefully both teams put on a great show for the big crowd today. Any time you get a chance to win a series in game two, it's an awesome opportunity. We've got a lot of young guys, so I look forward to it. Alex Carey comes in for Philippe. Xavier Bartlett comes in for Ellis.
Australia have won the toss and have opted to field
Pitch Report | Parthiv Patel and Shane Watson: "We always expect a really nice cricket surface here, a nice pitch. Overnight, there were some UV lights over the pitch, which meant that they were trying to get a little bit of moisture out of the surface. When you go down to the surface, it's always rock hard. It is so hard that there is a tiny bit of moisture at the top of the surface, which means, whoever bats first, there will be a little bit of grip from the seam with that new ball. Once the batters get through that, it's going to be a really true batting surface. Adelaide Oval always offers a good contest between bat and ball, and today will be no different either."
As for India, they might stick with the same combination and will hope better for better returns from their top 4. It's no secret that Virat Kohli loves this venue and he would be desperate to make a mark after a poor outing in the first game. Rohit, too, will be eager to make amends at the top alongside skipper Shubman Gill. Adelaide Oval is surely a much better surface for the batters compared to Perth. Can we expect a high-scoring thriller? Lots to look forward to in this game. Stay tuned for toss and teams...
The hosts will welcome the return of their premier spinner Adam Zampa, and not to forget their back-up keeping option in white ball cricket, and the local lad - Alex Carey. Marnus Labuschagne has 4 hundreds in his last 5 domestic games (2 FC and 3 List A games), and there will be temptation to bring him back into the eleven given the importance of sustaining a good run of form ahead of the all-important Ashes later next month.
13:00 Local Time, 02:30 GMT, 08:00 IST: The first game was marred with consistent rain interruptions and in such games, the toss becomes such a vital factor. Australia won the toss and eventually chased the DLS adjusted target quite comfortably. India lost their top 4 cheaply, and were forced to play catch up for the rest of their innings. The good thing, today, however, is that the weather looks much better and expect a cracking contest between two highly-competitive sides. Hello and a warm welcome to the second ODI. Can India bounce back and square the series? Or is it gonna be another (series) win for Australia?

It's been well over 10 years. But one of the most prominent murals till date inside the main Adelaide Airport terminal is that of a packed Adelaide Oval, engulfed in a sea of blue Indian jerseys. It's from the 2015 World Cup encounter between India and Pakistan, when the city and its Oval were taken over by thousands of partisan Indian fans.

It's a constant reminder of the rather special and unique relationship Indian cricket has shared with the Adelaide Oval. As has its most popular cricketer of recent times. But unlike with Virat Kohli, who's always loved scoring runs at what he considers his favourite venue, Indian cricket has had an equal mix of glorious and notorious moments here.

Ranging from the lowly lows of being bowled out for 36 in a Test match to posting famous victories across formats, some that have been etched in the highest echelons of Indian cricket history. With that World Cup win over Pakistan probably still the most memorable highlight at the Adelaide Oval.

With reports about tickets for the second ODI being sold out, the atmosphere is expected to be somewhat similar to that famous night a decade ago. What with India now in a must-win position to stay alive in the series. Not to forget that this will indeed be their final sighting of Kohli at the Adelaide Oval.

If anything the weather around the Adelaide Oval has been hospitable enough to the Indians to provide them with enough dry spells for two mostly full-fledged training sessions. While Virat Kohli had a lengthy hit on Tuesday and was seen in great spirits to be back in Adelaide, fellow veteran Rohit Sharma was at it on both days, eager to get his series going.

Though it's unlikely that whatever transpires on Thursday will end up as a mural anywhere in the city, it does promise to be quite a spectacle regardless as India look to create another memory at one of their favourite homes away from home.

When: Australia v India, 2nd ODI, October 23, 2025, 14:00 hrs Local Time, 14:30 hrs AEDT, 09:00 hrs IST

Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

What to expect: We are in the last week of spring but the weather has felt nothing like it in Adelaide over the last two days. There were thunderstorms through Tuesday and even a big spell of rain early on the eve of the match. But the skies did clear as Wednesday wore on, but not enough for the groundstaff to avoid using the heat lamps over the pitch. The pitches here this season have been largely good to bat on as seen during the two Shield games, and expect it to be the same for the second ODI.

Team News

Australia

There are a few notable returns for Australia with hometown hero Alex Carey definitely back in the XI. Marnus Labuschagne was the first to the ground, spending nearly half an hour with the ground-staff talking pitches, and he was first in the nets for a hit. There is a likelihood of him coming into the side for Cooper Connolly, with Mitch Owen potentially moving down to No 7. Adam Zampa is also back in the mix and should replace the impressive Matt Kuhnemann.

Probable XI:Travis Head, Mitch Marsh (c), Matt Short, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey (wk), Mitch Owen, Cooper Connolly/Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

India

There was a lot of chat around Yashasvi Jaiswal, who spent most of Wednesday bowling his leg-spin. Though everyone including the couple of selectors on tour were seen talking to the young opener, it's unlikely that India will make too many changes to their team from Perth.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill (c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh
