A crushing victory to push the Sunrisers to the top of the table. The action continues as winless MI Cape Town face in-form Joburg Super Kings at the Newlands tomorrow. Do join us for that match. For now, cheers and bye..
Quinton de Kock | Player of the Match - I think obviously just getting through the new ball most of the time. It always plays better the longer you're back, so that's pretty much just what I do. I wouldn't say I've changed much. I think I've just tried to be a bit more clever in the way I build innings. Look, I've been lucky enough to play all around the world in different conditions, in different formats, so I've been able to not change my game, but just become better at decision-making. I've tinkered one or two things in my technique, but otherwise not much, just being a bit more clever in the way I go about things. Not so much. Generally, they just ask me if it's swinging or not. They say, you be you, and I say, me be me. We just carry on, and we just bat. Let's do what we do (on his pairing with Bairstow). Look, I'm here to help also. I also love being with a good group of guys. I think I've got an amazing team. They're so much fun. They enjoy what they do. They enjoy it on and off the field, which is really nice to have. A couple of youngsters who are growing their own game, so I try and help wherever I can, where I see they need it. That's pretty much it, but obviously, we're busy playing the tournament, so I can only tinker one or two things. I don't want them to practice. It's more match prep than anything, so pretty much that. Just trying to add a little bit of value that I think that they need. No, unfortunately not (if he was going to do fishing in Durban). I have to stay an extra night in Pretoria, so I won't be doing any of those things anytime soon.|
Tristan Stubbs | Sunrisers Eastern Cape Captain - We thought it was a bit tacky throughout, so the plan was to just try and use the wicket, use it as our friend, and go from there. I think we were quite happy (with the target). We thought it would get a bit better under lights, and we know they got away in the last five, but you can see when you get going, it's just to try and contain. They've built a culture where we enjoy it (on the team management). We just try and have a really good match and play as hard as we can on the field, and that's what we've been doing so far. No, the two of them have played enough cricket, they know exactly what to do. I've said before, if they keep doing that, I'll be very happy. That was so good to watch. We were chatting about it on the side. For the two of them to bat like that, it was like us watching when we were 15 again. They have just so much composure (on the bowlers). You throw them the ball, they're clear, they know what they want to do. In any situation, they've done it all before, so they've done really well.
Keshav Maharaj | Pretoria Capitals Captain - I've always thought 176 was enough. It wasn't your traditional Super Sport wicket, but you know, we would have liked another 20 more runs. But I think having said that, we didn't start well with the ball and then just got through the innings. Didn't look like there was too much energy on the field. It just didn't go our way. I think we could have tried bowling around the stumps. And then obviously with the length, we saw that just hit back of the length, felt we were a touch too full at the start. But it's just one of those days that happens, unfortunately. Obviously we've got to dust ourselves off and bounce back really quickly. We've got a game coming on Wednesday. Like I said, it's very disappointing to get two losses at home in front of a brilliant crowd here. So hopefully come Wednesday, we get back to winning ways, back to the drawing board and back to basics.
20:38 Local Time, 18:38 GMT, 00:08 IST: At the break, the target of 176 seemed to be very competitive, but the home team have simply been blown away under the lights. Quinton de Kock started off quickly, Jonny Bairstow took his time to settle - there were a couple of nervy moments, but once both got in, it led to sheer carnage. The South African reached his fifty first and then Bairstow simply tore into Keshav Maharaj, the Capitals captain getting smashed for 34 runs in the 11th over. What seemed to be a tough chase was chased down with super ease. Bairstow probably could've had a hundred for himself, but de Kock finished the game off with two massive sixes and the Sunrisers have sealed the top-spot with their 3rd bonus-point win of the season. Stay tuned for the presentations..
