PLAYER OF THE MATCH
So, that's it from our side. A game that went right down to the wire and it was the Vipers who held their nerves. They have won three out of three now and are shaping up really well. Join us for some high-octance action from the ILT20 tomorrow as well. Until next time, goodbye and cheers!
Dan Lawrence | Player of the Match: (On whether he planned to play attacking cricket from the start) Honestly, not really at the start. I think I was two off seven balls at one stage, so I was actually in a bit of panic mode. Dawson bowled a couple of really good overs at me. Then I just thought, you know what - if I’m going out, I might as well go out playing my shots. Thankfully, it came off. I didn’t feel calm at the start, to be honest. We needed around 12-and-a-half an over on a pretty slow surface. But it was one of those pitches where once you got in, it became nice to bat on - it just took a few balls to settle. (On whether he is feeling drained) A little bit. We’re playing a lot of games, and it’s great that we’re on a winning run. Long may it continue.
Sam Curran: (On them playing out such close games) It's been a trend recently, but I'm not complaining. 3 from 3, which is nice. I do feel like we weigh off still, which is a good sign. But, yeah, both games, we needed 30 of 12, and somehow we have done it. I think, to be fair, I think the way I've done it, and the path I've followed very well as well, and with a couple of nice partnerships through the middle, and then, in the super over a couple of nice hits from Dan, and that was a nice finish. (On Tanveer) I mean, this fellow comes in, and he hit one of the best sixes would to kick it to a super over. I think he's been working really hard at passing the nets, and the type of player he is it's great. He also took like 2/20 with the ball, or something like that. So, it's a really good sign. There's still a big week. We need to actually build on that. I think we can, in that powerplay, a few early weeks will be quite tough to kind of rebuild, and hopefully we're getting back in action to our own Abu Dhabi, so hopefully a nice healthy week in the back four.
Moeen Ali: Yeah, certainly. I thought we just made a couple of mistakes at the wrong time, and that allowed them back into the game. Every time we were ahead, we just needed a couple of good balls, but we gave them the opportunities they needed. They defended really well in the end. We made a few errors, but overall it was a very good game. Absolutely - 100%. Games rarely feel done and dusted anymore because there’s so much power-hitting, especially at the back end. With one side of the ground smaller than the other, anything can happen. It was a great game of cricket - great entertainment. And honestly, it’s one we could easily have won. (On the Super Over being a tough one for both sides) Yeah, it is. Anything can happen in a Super Over.
22:52 Local Time, 18:52 GMT, 00:22 IST: What a game of cricket it has turned out to be! The Vipers have found the key to success once again. They had far from a perfect game but they seized the key moments when it mattered the most. Hetmyer and Lawrence scored 13 runs off the Super Over. That six from Lawrence off the penultimate delivery was the differential point. In response, Moeen and Moores coudn't get going. Moeen took the majority of the strike and tried too hard and paid the price.
Ball 6 - Naseem Shah to Moeen Ali, 1 run, there's the game for the Desert Vipers! Naseem has done the job for his side. Very full delivery outside off, Moeen swings hard again but once again carves it off the outer half and it is only a single. 9/0
Ball 5 - Naseem Shah to Moores, 1 run, very full around off, Moores can only dig it towards long-off. Just a single. 6 runs needed off the last delivery. Can Moeen do it for his side?
Ball 4 - Naseem Shah to Moeen Ali, 1 run, very full outside off, Moeen scythes it to sweeper cover for just a single
Ball 3 - Naseem Shah to Mooen Ali, 2 runs, low full-toss well outside off, Moeen swings and only manages to carve it off the outer half towards deep point. His timing has gone awry, he is not able to middle anything. 6/0
Ball 3 - Naseem Shah to Moores, 2 wides, pitched up wide outside off, Moores swings and misses and the batters sneak in another extra run. The keeper missed his shy at the striker's end. 10 runs needed off 4 balls
Ball 2 - Naseem Shah to Moeen Ali, 1 run, a low full-toss around off, Moeen can only drive it on the up to long-off. Only a single. 2/0
Ball 1 - Naseem Shah to Moeen Ali, no run, full delivery wide outside off, Moeen throws his bat at it but misses. It was close to the nick but it wouldn't have mattered even if he nicked it because it was a Free Hit
Ball 1 – Naseem Shah to Moeen Ali, no ball, a high full-toss outside off, Moeen throws his bat at it but misses. The umpires get together to check for the height and it's above the waist. It's a no ball and a Free Hit is coming up...
Naseem Shah is marking his run-up as he warms up to bowl the Super Over. There's some animosity going on. Everyone is having issues. The umpires are having a chat with Vince. Not sure what the reason is for the delay. Moeen Ali and Tom Moores are the openers for the Giants. Shah has marked his run-up at the wrong end. The on-air commentators mention that the team that fields first in the Super Over and the end they choose to bowl from, the other team also needs to follow the same. The umpires have now rectified the issue and Shah runs across to the other end.
The Vipers have managed to score 13 runs off the Super Over. Thushara missed his mark once and that one was dispatched for a maximum by Lawrence. Other than that, he was quite good as he targeted the blockhole and also mixed it with slower ones. The Giants need 14 to win.
Ball 6 - Thushara to Lawrence, OUT caught by Dawson. Slower delivery following a backing away Lawrence. He has no room to play the big shot and chips it towards long-off. Dawson runs in and dives in front to take a good catch. 13/1
Ball 5 - Thushara to Lawrence, SIX, Thushara misses his mark and he pays the price! In the slot, Lawrence clears his front leg and smashes it over long-on for a maximum. 13/0
Ball 4 - Thushara to Lawrence, 2 runs, full delivery swinging towards the pads, Lawrence flicks it towards deep backward square leg. It's in the gap and he comes back for another couple. 7/0
Ball 3 - Thushara to Lawrence, 2 runs, on a length on off, Lawrence drags the expansive hit towards deep mid-wicket. Another couple results. 5/0
Ball 2 – Thushara to Hetmyer, 1 run, leg byes, the Giants take a review for lbw! Has it pitched in line though? Was a fuller length delivery around leg-stump, Hetmyer tried to hit it across but missed to get pinged on the pads. Ball-tracking comes into play and it has pitched outside leg. That puts the argument to bed. 3/0
