PLAYER OF THE MATCH
PLAYER OF THE SERIES
That brings to an end this series. The ODIs are next and it starts on the 4th of this month. Do join us then. For now it's bye bye and ta, ta from all of us.
Salman is given the series trophy by Mohsin Naqvi - yes that same man! No issues this time with giving the trophy. Salman takes it and goes near his team-mates and places it in front of all of them. Then he goes and joins Babar as they share a smile. Pakistan pose with the trophy for the cameras.
Salman Ali Agha | Pakistan captain: I think a good team does that. When they have a great performance, they'll be back there and we did that. And I'm very happy with that. (on team shaping nicely ahead of the T20 World Cup) It's like three, four months now. We have told every player what is their role in the team. And I think everyone knows now. And it's just like executing their role in every single game, day in, day out. (on keeping a balance) You just need to do that. What the game needs you, this is what you need to do. And I think we did that in this game and the last game as well. So this is what we wanted to do, like week in, week out, day in, day out, every single game. And this is going to win us the games as well. (rotating the bowlers) I believe in that because we have so many games coming up. We are playing almost 14-15 games in 25 days. And it's hard for everyone to play every single game. So that's what we are doing. The bench strength is growing as well and I'm very happy with that as well. (on making the chase interesting) That's what Pakistan is doing. We would love to do a bit more clinical, but I'll take that. Because we were one-nil down and coming back, winning this series, it's a great effort for the boys. And I'm very happy for them and for the fans of Pakistan as well. It's always great when you are one-nil down and come back and show that those characters we have shown in this game and the last game as well, which is a very, very great moment for us. And we just want to continue and play cricket like that every single game.
Donovan Ferreira | South Africa captain: I think obviously we didn't perform with the bat once again. I think our bowlers really did well to fight till the end. But yeah, like not having enough runs on the board which didn't really help us. (positives) There is. We can take a lot out of it. I think any up and down you can learn a lot. I think for our bowlers, you know, it's never done until the end. They showed that, they fought really well. And then for our batters, you know, we can't keep losing wickets in clusters. That did not help us. (on Pakistan keeping it simple) Yeah, I think we can definitely take a lot out of what they did. Like you said, they kept it really simple. They bowled to their skills. They bowled a lot of cutters over there, which obviously got us out. So, I think credit to them. And for us, we can learn a lot. (on captaincy) I definitely enjoyed it. Like I said, this last five overs in this game was exciting. You know, doing something unorthodox over there. So, that's really good for us. (enjoyed Pakistan?) I did. Obviously, you can't really do much. But, yeah, the games have been good. We still have the one-day series now coming up. So, we still have a couple of days here. And just the last thing, I just want to give a shout-out to our ladies. In the final of the World Cup, we're going to be up watching the game and supporting you guys. Cheers.
Faheem Ashraf | Player of the Series (translated from Urdu): Like how I spoke yesterday, there's a role for me in the team, whether it is bowling, batting or fielding. Even if I don't get batting or bowling, I will try to help the team with my fielding. I get an edge when I bowl because I think like a batter. When a batter expects me to bowl slow, I try to go pace-on. Sometimes I go against what a batter thinks and sometimes I go with what he thinks. Whatever the team wants me to do, I will do it.
Babar Azam | Player of the Match (translated from Urdu): The way Lahore crowd supported me this innings was due, the team believed in me, I believed in myself and thanks to Allah it happened today. In every aspect there is pressure, my focus was on how to get better and how to help the team. Whatever the situation demanded, I go according to it. I worked on my strengths, improved my weaknesses. The ball was gripping at the start, me and Agha had a chat that we should see off the spinners. And then when the fast bowlers came on, we wanted to take it deep. (on the crowd shouting his name when the opener gets out) These are our players too, please support them like you have supported me, keep supporting Pakistan.
23:38 Local Time, 18:38 GMT, 00:08 IST: All smiles in the Pakistan camp. The chase was going to be easy with the dew on offer and Pakistan were helped by Babar who looked to be back to his best. Some scintillating strokes in his knock and despite late wickets, South Africa couldn't manage a comeback. Babar strung stands with Farhan and Salman Agha to put Pakistan well ahead. Saim Ayub went for a duck and that would have given South Africa the boost, but Babar stood firm. After he got out, Pakistan lost more wickets but by then the target was not far away. Pakistan win two games in two days to seal the series. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
