PLAYER OF THE MATCH
So India storm into the next stage and so do New Zealand but in contrasting fashion. That's it from all of us here for now. We will be back with more cricket from this tournament tomorrow. For now it's tata bye bye.
Ayush Mhatre | India captain: Yeah, that was a simple plan because the ball also coming really nice on the bat. So that was a simple plan and there were some small target also. So just want to bat. (if the threat of rain made them play aggressively?) No, no, there was nothing behind that. Just I want to see the ball and just play. Like the ball was coming really good on the bat. So just a simple plan. (on New Zealand's plans) Yeah, they were just, they have come from with the plan that just they will just going to bowl bouncer, I think so. So I was just ready for that. (on the next stage) The coaches also really going where we are getting some lovely batting and the boys are really confident and just not, they're not overconfident. That's why I'm really happy for them.
Tom Jones | New Zealand captain: I think so. When the scoreboard is that dominant, it's one of those things where you have to give credit to the India boys, they have been the gold standard of under-19 cricket for the past few years, and today was no different. So we definitely take a lot of learnings, but credit needs to go to them. I think so. We're certainly making no excuses. I think our prep's been really good. I've been so proud of the way the boys have been really consistent. We've been turning up every day, ready to learn, ready to get better, and ready to grow as a group. And yeah, bitterly disappointed with today. (on their chances in this tournament) We still believe so. It feels weird that we're through to the Super Six with playing only one game, but we're taking it a day at a time. We know we've got two big games coming up, and we're really looking forward to it.
RS Ambrish | Player of the Match: Yeah, actually we did a good job and Vaibhav had a great start, followed by Mhatre, it was good. (what was the plan when bowling?) We had a plan before, just to hit top of off-stump, just stick to it. (difficult chase?) Not really. (on the fielding) They are doing a good job till now, India will be continuing it. (on what his future ambitions are?) To be contributing both in the bat and ball to the team.
16:02 Local Time, 14:02 GMT, 19:32 IST: What a clinical win this is. It's a thrashing. India chasing down 130 in 13.3 overs. If that is not a hammering, then I don't know what is. Aaron George went early but the skipper Mhatre was in some nick. He was pulling short balls off the front foot for fun. Smashed 6 sixes and most of them pulls. Welcomed the offie - Selwin Sanjay with two sixes as well. Sooryavanshi too biffed his way to a 23-ball 40 as the duo ran riot. New Zealand had no answers and the game was done in a jiffy. After Mhatre and Sooryavanshi went, the formalities were completed by Vedant Trivedi and Vihaan Malhotra. Both teams have already qualified for the next stage but India by winning here have grabbed the top spot. Also the points and NRR will be carried forward which is a big advantage going into the Super Six stage. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
