India Women vs Sri Lanka Women, 4th T20I

INDW
221/2(20)
SLW
191/6(20)
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
The scoreline says 4-0, and while the first three games were one-sided, Sri Lanka certainly pushed India today. Their first innings didn’t quite go to plan, but they came out with positive intent in the chase and produced their highest-ever T20I total. They’ll want to take that belief forward into the final match and look to finish the series with a consolation win. That’s all from this game. The final match of the tour is on Tuesday - do join us then. Until next time, goodbye and stay safe..

Smriti Mandhana | Player of the Match: Yeah, it felt really good. We’ve played a lot of one-day cricket over the last six months, so the first three matches were a bit tricky in terms of getting back into T20 mode. Mentally, it’s a different space after so much ODI cricket. Not really, I think it was more about me than them (if Sri Lanka did anything differently today). I had plans against their bowling, I knew what to expect, but in the first few games I probably gave my wicket away trying to execute shots I’d been practicing. I came here early and worked on a few things, but no matter how much you train, doing it out in the middle is always different. Batting with Shafali is always a treat for the eyes. The way she started, she made my job a lot easier. I could take my time, rotate strike, and get into rhythm while she did most of the heavy hitting early on. We complement each other really well - we understand whose day it is and play accordingly. And I’m really happy with how much she’s matured with her batting. In the last one year there's a different team building that has happened, everyone celebrates each other’s success. It’s a conscious effort - to be there for one another whether things are going great or not so great. When she (Kamalini) took that catch, we were all thrilled because it was her first time out there in an India jersey.
Harmanpreet Kaur: We were getting short with time so I wanted everyone to be on time, I didn't want the last over with three fielders outside. I have been playing cricket now for ages, so I try to improve after each game. We should give credit to Smriti and Shafali, the way they started and they made things very easy for us. And later on, myself and Richa were there to finish the game. We thought we'll give a chance to Harleen, but unfortunately, how things went, we just wanted to send Richa first because she's someone who can finish the game better than anyone else. So, we thought of sending her (Harleen) first, but then Smriti and Shafali were the reason she didn't get to bat.
Chamari Athapaththu: At least we improved in our batting areas. We still need to improve our power-hitting. They (India) batted really good according to their plans. Our bowlers didn't bowl well, but it is a young bowling attack and lot of inexperience. They learn a lot of things from these tournaments because they're playing with the best team in the world at the moment. I hope they'll play their best in the next game. She (Vaishanvi) has been bowling really good, she's improved a lot because she played under-19 and I saw how she played. She doesn't play WPL, but she bowled really good and according to the plan, the most important thing is how she planned her spells. I saw how Harmanpreet managed her, really good for India.

22:12 Local Time, 16:42 GMT: That was an excellent response from Sri Lanka. Yes, they’ve fallen short by 30 runs, but they’ve also produced their highest-ever T20I total, and that in itself is a big statement. Hasini Perera gave them a flying start and skipper Chamari Athapaththu joined the charge as they raced to 50 in just 3.3 overs, adding 59 for the opening wicket. Chamari carried on after Hasini’s dismissal, bringing up her first fifty of the series and keeping Sri Lanka ahead of India’s score at the halfway stage. Every batter who came in showed intent, kept finding boundaries and ensured the chase stayed alive for a long time. But they couldn’t quite match India’s explosive second half and eventually finished on 191. For India, this was the first real challenge of the series. The bowlers had to operate with a wet ball, the fielders weren’t at their sharpest and they did struggle at times. Only Vaishnavi Sharma truly stood out, finishing with impressive figures of 2 for 24 in her 4 overs. Thankfully, India’s batters had put up a massive total and that cushion allowed them to extend their winning run. Presentations coming up..
