Meg Lanning has enjoyed more success as captain than what has come her way over the last three weeks in the yellow and purple. If UP Warriorz lose on Sunday, for the second season in a row, they will be ending the Women's Premier League season at the bottom of the table. If they win, they might still end up there.

But there is an extremely faint possibility - needing a run difference of around 156-plus (if they post 200) or chase the target in three overs - that they could just qualify for the Eliminator. And in that hope, they would look to take the field against Delhi Capitals, the same team that Lanning had led to direct finals in each of the three previous seasons.

For the first time, under a new leader, Capitals won't be sealing a direct spot for the final. Instead, they would be battling it out in the last league game, hoping not to be eliminated from the tournament. It's been a rocky campaign so far, with some moments of high, some individual brilliance, a new discovery, and some slippery moments.

The calculation for the Jemimah Rodrigues led side though, is fairly straightforward. Win, and seal a berth in the Eliminator against Gujarat Giants. Lose, and head back home. The practicality of the contest means that for all that is at stake, there will potentially be one team playing with all to lose. The only other team that is likely to have interest in this contest, and possibly cheering UPW on despite losing to them twice this season, would be Mumbai Indians, who will most likely to through if their arch-nemesis lose on Sunday.

There is a lot in the think-tank of Capitals that Lanning would be aware of. The reverse is also true, and Capitals would just hope to get the better of their former skipper.

When: Sunday, February 1, 2026

Where: Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz, Match 20, BCA Stadium, Kotambi

What to expect: The scores at the venue have been middling, and provided for some tough contest between bat and ball. Toss hasn't played a decisive factor, and there is unlikely to be any advantage.

Team News:

UP Warriorz: The Lanning-led side ran out of patience with Kiran Navgire following her string of poor scores and dropped her from the side. With Deepti Sharma, Lanning forged a good partnership at the top, but batting woes continued to haunt them. They could offer some game time to players who have largely warmed the bench

Probable XI: Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma, Harleen Deol, Deandra Dottin, Chloe Tryon, Shweta Sehrawat, Simran Shaikh, Sophie Ecclestone, S Asha, Shikha Pandey, Kranti Gaud

Delhi Capitals: There is unlikely to be any tinkering with the side in such a crucial game despite the close loss against Gujarat Giants.

Probable XI: Shafali Verma, Lizelle Lee, Laura Wolvaardt, Jemimah Rodrigues, Marizanne Kapp, Nikki Prasad, Chenille Henry, Sneh Rana, Minnu Mani, Shree Charani, Nandni Sharma

What they said:

"We're still in the tournament, and we're going to keep fighting" - Jemimah Rodrigues, DC captain following the loss against Giants

"In T20 cricket, when batters get in and get going, you need to maximise that. We've probably underdone that - myself included. I got to 40, which is a good start, but you need to keep going. That's been a theme across the whole tournament and it's something we need to improve" - Meg Lanning, UPW captain
