SUMMARY

A fine all-rounder, Francis Ford played 168 first-class matches, scoring 10000-plus runs and taking 200 wickets. His bowling revolved around slow left-arm loopies with batting being his stronger suit. Ford was really good at cutting and driving the ball. Aptly, he was nick-named 'Stork' because of his height (6 feet 2.5 inches) and hailed from a sturdy cricketing family. He was the youngest of seven brothers to have taken to cricket.

He figured in only 5 Tests only without much success to show for.

Outside of cricket, he was a decent goal-keeper, captaining Cambridge Association XI. Even after retirement he was actively involved with cricket. It was Francis Ford, who ushered in the amendment of Law 24 (No ball), before passing away on February 7, aged 73 at Sussex.
