SUMMARY

Neil Fairbrother, was one among the county giants who had failed to make it big at the international level. As it stands, he played just 10 Tests, squirting out 219 runs at a poor average of 15.64, a far cry from his first-class record, which reads 20612 runs in 366 matches. He fielded with the enthusiasm of a new-born lamb and was adept at building as well as rebuilding an innings in the middle order.

His finest hour arrived when he made 366 (out of which 311 were hit on a single day) for Lancashire versus Surrey in 1990. However, he was often guilty of flirting outside the off-stump, a glaring weakness that limited his Test career. After his retirement in 2002, Fairbrother became a Director at International Sports Management, an agency which caters towards representing English cricketers.
