SRI LANKA VS AUSTRALIA - 1st Test
SL Inngs
Vandersay to Webster, out Caught by Kamindu Mendis!! Lovely low catch and he's got rid of Webster! Tossed up full outside off, Webster cleared his front-leg looking to carve that up and over cover. Couldn't quite get the elevation and he sliced it low to Kamindu Mendis at cover. He got down quickly and held on to a sharp catch. Vandersay is pleased as Webster trudges off gesturing he wanted to go over cover. Webster c Kamindu Mendis b Vandersay 23(50) [4s-1]
Prabath Jayasuriya to Josh Inglis, out Caught by Kamindu Mendis!! Another leading edge and Inglis has popped a sitter to cover, end of a superb hand and he walks away to another round of applause from the Australian supporters. PJ slowed down the pace, drifted one into the right-hander and beat the charging right-hander with the flight, the ball dipped onto Inglis who was looking to whip it through the on-side, caught the leading edge and lobbed into the hands of Kamindu Mendis. Josh Inglis c Kamindu Mendis b Prabath Jayasuriya 102(94) [4s-10 6s-1]
Prabath Jayasuriya to Khawaja, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! Khawaja has been given OUT caught behind, he turns around and walks off, that's the end of a marathon innings from the opener. Was pushed through flatter and quicker of off, Khawaja hung back, opened the face of the bat and looked to drop it onto the off-side, gets a thin edge and the keeper does the rest. A massive round of applause as he walks back to the dressing room. Khawaja c Kusal Mendis b Prabath Jayasuriya 232(352) [4s-16 6s-1]
Vandersay to Smith, out Lbw!! Sri Lanka review for lbw against Smith. This looks close. 80kph, Vandersay attacks the stumps and there's hardly any turn on this occasion. Smith presses forward to defend and gets beaten on the inside edge as he expects the ball to spin away. Flat line on UltraEdge. The impact is in front of off as he gets rapped on the back leg. Here's ball-tracking and it's three reds - hitting off! Successful review and the marathon 266-run stand comes to an end. Smith lbw b Vandersay 141(251) [4s-12 6s-2]
Vandersay to Labuschagne, out Caught by Dhananjaya!! Gone this time. DdS at slip makes no mistake as he takes a low catch in front of him. Nicely tossed up outside off, Labuschagne with a nothing shot, poking at it with an open face and the outside-edge goes low to the Sri Lankan captain. He could have left that alone but played at it. A timely wicket for Sri Lanka just before lunch. Labuschagne c Dhananjaya b Vandersay 20(50) [4s-2]
Prabath Jayasuriya to Head, out Caught by Chandimal!! Shouts of catch it and it's taken in the deep at long-on! You live by the sword and die by it - Travis Head perishes. Full outside off, Head stepped out looking to go downtown, the execution was wrong this time though, it came right off the toe end and he holed out to Chandimal who was waiting down at long-on. Big breakthrough for the Sri Lankans, boy did they need that. Entertaining knock from Head but it's over. Head c Chandimal b Prabath Jayasuriya 57(40) [4s-10 6s-1]

Kuhnemann to Vandersay, out Caught by Mitchell Starc!! Straight up in the air and taken! A five-wicket haul for Kuhnemann! Sri Lanka's tail wasn't expected to hang around long and they stay true to that. Tossed up full just outside off, Vandersay looks to slog right across the line and it pops up off the toe end, simple catch for Starc at extra cover. Sri Lanka bundled out for just 165. Vandersay c Mitchell Starc b Kuhnemann 4(7) [4s-1]
Lyon to Nishan Peiris, out Caught by Josh Inglis!! Tell you what, this was a real chance and it's taken easily! Flat and quick on off-stump, Nishan Peiris fended from his crease, skidded through just a touch and caught a thick inside edge onto the pads that lobbed up to Inglis at forward short leg. Easy catch and Sri Lanka are 9 down. Nishan Peiris c Josh Inglis b Lyon 5(9) [4s-1]
Kuhnemann to Prabath Jayasuriya, out Stumped!! As easy as you like! Another one falls. Tossed up on off-stump, Prabath Jayasuriya stepped right out looking to defend, was done by the flight and drop and it ripped past the outside edge, easy stumping for Carey. Jayasuriya had no hope of getting back into his crease. Sri Lanka have lost 3 wickets in no time. Prabath Jayasuriya st Carey b Kuhnemann 0(6)
Lyon to Chandimal, out Lbw!! Double blow for Sri Lanka! Both batters are gone in the space of two overs and Australia continue to asser their dominance. Floated up full on off-stump, Chandimal brought the wrong-footed reverse-sweep, had played it really effectively so far but it leads to his downfall this time. Bit into the surface and turned sharply before going under the blade, hit him on the back leg and the umpire Adrian Holdstock gave it out straightaway. Review does little to help Chandimal, no bat involved and it returns with 3 reds. Chandimal lbw b Lyon 72(139) [4s-9]
Kuhnemann to Kusal Mendis, out Caught by Murphy!! He's thrown it away! Australia set the trap and Kusal Mendis fell right into it. Floated up full on off-stump, Kusal Mendis leant in to sweep, had to fetch it a little and the drop meant it took the top-edge before flying out towards deep mid-wicket who was halfway back just for that kind of shot, good catch from Murphy who ran across to his left to pouch it. Australia get their first breakthrough of the morning. Kusal Mendis c Murphy b Kuhnemann 21(40) [4s-1 6s-1]
Kuhnemann to Dhananjaya, out Stumped!! Oh dear! That's so poor from DDS - a pre-empted charge and he has tossed his wicket away. Kuhnemann saw it coming, held the length back and then gets it to spin across DDS's wild hoick, nowhere near the pitch of the ball and Carey has an easy stumping on hand. Sri Lanka continue to lose wickets in a soft fashion. Dhananjaya st Carey b Kuhnemann 22(34) [4s-3]
Mitchell Starc to Kamindu Mendis, out Caught by Carey!! Oh they've got him strangled down leg! Disappointing dismissal for Kamindu Mendis. Full and sliding down leg, Kamindu Mendis looked to glance it fine and could only manage a little tickle through to Carey. Sri Lanka have lost their fourth and it's the talented young batter who've made waves in Test cricket of late. Kamindu Mendis c Carey b Mitchell Starc 15(38) [4s-1 6s-1]
Lyon to Mathews, out Caught by Head!! Sri Lanka sink further. That's an outstanding catch by Head at short leg as he grabs it with a dive to his right. Mathews got it off the gloves as he lunged forward to defend, but Head stationed at short leg does an exceptional job. Sri Lanka have lost their third wicket and they still trail by a massive margin of 624 runs.. That ball gripped and turned, had some extra bounce as well. Mathews c Head b Lyon 7(18) [4s-1]
Mitchell Starc to Karunaratne, out Caught by (sub)McSweeney!! Both the openers are gone early! A short ball outside off, some extra carry and Karunaratne looks to play it on the rise. Gets an outside edge towards gully where McSweeney gets his hands to it. The ball pops out on the first attempt, but the fielder does well to take it on the second attempt. Had to dive forward in order to take it. Karunaratne continues to struggle against Mitch Starc. Has been out against him several times before. Karunaratne c (sub)McSweeney b Mitchell Starc 7(13) [4s-1]
Kuhnemann to Oshada Fernando, out Lbw!! Sri Lanka have lost their first wicket. They have lost a review too. Was a flatter delivery around leg and it spun sharply to beat Oshada Fernando's defence. Pitching in line, impact in line and it's crashing into the stumps, confirm the replays. The opener will have to make his way back to the pavilion. Not the kind of start Sri Lanka wanted with such a massive first innings total on the board. Oshada Fernando lbw b Kuhnemann 7(10) [4s-1]
