The win lifts Pakistan to second place in Group C, and after failing to chase 211 in their opening game against England, this result will give them much-needed confidence heading into their final fixture against hosts Zimbabwe. Scotland, despite not having enough runs on the board, showed commendable fight and did well to ensure their net run rate was not overly affected. The tournament is now reaching a stage where every game carries added significance. Do remember to join us for all the uninterrupted action. Cheers!!
Farhan Yousaf: What pleased me most was that every player gave 100 percent. We lost the last game, but the management backed the boys and supported us strongly, and that showed in this performance. Our bowling unit is a big strength - we have genuine pace like Ali Raza, who bowled very well in both games, along with quality spinners, and as a captain I really enjoy managing such a bowling attack. The middle order performance was also very pleasing, especially the hundred partnership between Ahmed and Usman, who are the backbone of our team. After a top-order collapse earlier, the way we recovered in this match is a very good sign for the upcoming games.
Thomas Knight: Obviously it wasn’t the result we wanted, which is never ideal, but the fight we showed - especially with the ball to take the game as deep as we did - is a real positive and says a lot about what we’re about as a group. Defending 187, the message to the bowlers was simple: restrict, bowl as many dot balls and ones as possible, build pressure, and take wickets from that. The aim was just to stay in the contest for as long as we could, and to push it into the 43rd over was something we were really pleased with. With the bat, it was tough, especially facing someone like Ali Raza with that extra pace, but the way the group stood up and fought showed real character. Looking ahead, we probably just need a little bit more with the bat - turning good starts into a 70 or 80 makes a big difference - but overall I couldn’t be much happier with how the team worked for each other in the second half.
Usman Khan | Player of the Match: The conditions were slightly on the slower side, and we lost an early wicket, so the plan was to take a bit of time at the start, rotate the strike with singles and doubles, and wait for the bad balls to put them away. Once we settled in, we trusted our process. Building a hundred-plus partnership in a chase isn’t easy, but Ahmed and I trusted each other, kept things simple, and focused on executing the plan - just nudging the ball around and capitalising on loose deliveries. As a batting unit, we are working very hard on our process, both in matches and on rest days, and our camp has been running for a long time. This is a very good batting unit, and going forward, we want to build more partnerships and be more aggressive when required. We are aiming high as a team, and with continued improvement, we believe we can achieve something special in the future. (translated from Urdu)
16:43 local, 14:43 GMT, 20:13 IST: It was a thoroughly professional chase from Pakistan. They avoided unnecessary risks early on, and despite losing both openers within the space of 10 balls, Usman Khan and Ahmed Hussain steadied the innings with a match-winning 111-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Usman took his time initially before showcasing his free-flowing stroke play, particularly with elegant lofts down the ground. Hussain, on the other hand, was content to play second fiddle, focusing on strike rotation rather than boundary-hitting. Only 28 runs came from overs 11–20, but the pair shifted gears in the next phase, adding 50 runs between overs 21–30. The Scotland pacers bowled disciplined lengths but did not attack the stumps as consistently as the spinners. Earlier, Ali Raza’s double-wicket opening over set the tone for Pakistan, and the remainder of the match was simply a matter of building on that disciplined bowling effort.
