PLAYER OF THE SERIES
A short but entertaining series in Dubai ends with Afghanistan taking it by a 2-1 margin. They'll now have a break before leaving for India for the 2026 T20 World Cup. West Indes will travel down to South Africa to wind up their preparations with a 3-match T20I series starting next week. Plenty of cricket around the globe and do follow our page for ball-by-ball coverage. For now, cheers and bye..
Rashid Khan | Afghanistan Captain - It was so important for us before the World Cup to have a series win. Winning that gives you more confidence and energy, but still the areas we wanted to improve, we got so much positives from that. And that was so much pleasing than winning the series. For us, going into the World Cup, this is a massive preparation. We had an opportunity today to see how we're gonna chase down totals, whatever the total, how we're going to go, how calm we are. Going into the World Cup, same conditions chasing 150 or 160, how we're gonna chase it as a team. These things happen, so much to learn from it, you work on it and think how we're going to come back as a team, to chase the total. We need to improve in a few areas, we have to keep the consistency and do it again and again. In the death overs, we can be much better. We can't be giving 40-50 runs in the last 3 overs. In the last match as well, we conceded 60 runs in the last 4 overs. That's the area we need to improve. It makes me happy to see the bowlers step-up in different periods. Everybody is contributing. The way we fielded was exceptional, the high catches were good and the bowlers were very well backed-up. The fielding was special over the last 3 games, it's good to go to the WC with such confidence. (Thanks the crowd in local Pashto language).
Brandon King | West Indies Captain - We wanted a little bit more to give our bowlers something to defend and the way the guys finished was good. We know the skills he brings to the game and he showed that in this game (on Shamar Springer). I think the difference in this game was execution. We had similar plans in the first two games, but the guys did exceptionally well today. All the bowlers bowled brilliantly. We've been coming up with good plans from a bowling point of view. And it's just execution that needs some work. We dropped a few catches this series and that hurt us. It’s great to end on a winning note, even though we lost the series. I don’t think the first two games showed what we’re really capable of. We obviously have some other guys returning after this series, so it's going to make us stronger.
Darwish Rasooli | Player of the Series - I put in a lot of effort to provide some batting stability in the middle-order. We should've chased down the total, but constantly lost wickets. We'll continue towards working for the WC, have some gaps to fill and we'll do it (spoke in Pashto language)
Shamar Springer | Player of the Match - It feels great, being the third West Indian to take a hat-trick in T20 cricket is really special. I was just patient. I just wanted to give my best when I got out there. (On batting with Forde) Just bat as limited dot balls as possible and try to capitalise on boundaries, we did that today. (On his bowling) It was just trying the guys to hit to the bigger side of the ground and to really focus on my execution as best as possible.
21:57 Local Time, 17:57 GMT, 23:27 IST: Afghanistan wanted to test their chasing ability and they've come short once again. This ends a streak of 6 losses at the DICS by the West Indies, also a 6-match winning streak by Afghanistan against the Windies comes to an end. On a slightly two-paced surface, the hosts were well on track thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz - the opener kept going at one end and eventually made a 58-ball 71, but the rest of the batting unit faltered. Ibrahim Zadran laboured to a 27-ball 28 and none of the others managed to get into double digits. Still, at 94 for 1 after 14 overs, they did look the favourites, but the chase was eventually derailed by the constant loss of wickets. Shamar Springer's 19th over hat-trick was the icing on the cake and West Indies have finished the series on a high. This isn't the West Indies team that'll travel to India for the WC, but some of the players have given performances which could work in their favour once the 15-member squad is officially announced. For AFG, it was another match where they failed to seize the moments. 152 was definitely chaseable - as good as they've been setting scores, they haven't chased well and that'll be a major worry for Rashid Khan & Co. Stay tuned for the presentations..
