PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Two convincing wins for Afghanistan and they've won the series with a match remaining. Score 180+ batting first and then restrict the opposition with all-round bowling performance has been their mantra. Plenty of positives for Afghanistan heading into the T20 World Cup and it's the converse for the Caribbean side. Just like the first match, they were poor in the field as they dropped as many as four catches today. And, barring the phase when Hetmyer smashed sixes for fun, they never threatened to come anywhere close to Afghanistan's total. That's it for today. Tune in tomorrow for the third and the final T20I of this series. Until then, goodbye...
Rashid Khan | Afghanistan captain: Playing against the best side in the world is always special. For us, the biggest challenge was how we're going to combine as a team as we had a very bad Asia Cup and then going for a big event like a World Cup, this preparation will really help us. In these conditions, line and length remain so important. Yes, you miss it sometimes, but if you keep the percentage high of hitting the right area consistently, I feel like you are more into the game. You might get hit for a couple of boundaries, but I think there's more chance you get back into the game. That was the discussion with the guys. For us, it's to keep simple, hit the right areas consistently. (On the middle order partnerships) That's something which makes me so happy. I feel we struggled a little bit in the last couple of years. Top orders are the ones who take the responsibility. And I'm so happy how Darwish took the responsibility in the couple of games, Sediq came and took the responsibility. So it looks like everyone is chipping in and taking the responsibility. It's a good preparation for the World Cup. (On their score of 189) We don't look at how much we've made, it's all about how much effort we put in the ground. Forget about what the score we are defending, it's more about the right length. In T20, a couple of partnerships can take the game away from you. We have to put effort till the last ball.
Brandon King | West Indies captain: When Hety came in, he had a brilliant start and kept us in the game, after his dismissal, I should have taken responsibility, having played so many balls, I should have taken us closer. (the dropped catches) That is a disappointment, we have dropped their key players in the two games and they have made us pay, but that is something we have to keep working on, we are professionals and need to improve. We were trying to target the shorter boundary, the right-left combination helped, he (Hetmyer) did it better than me, but yeah.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman | Player of the Match: Congratulations to everyone for the series win. The plan was just to keep it simple and hit the right area and keep it stump-to-stump. That was something that was in my mind. (On claiming the hat-trick) I didn't know that I was on a hat-trick because I had bowled earlier. The situation was also different and I was focusing on hitting the right area. When I got the wicket, then I knew I got the hat-trick. So happy for that. It's a good preparation for us before the World Cup, especially against the best side, the West Indies. They are a very good side. And for us, it can't be a better preparation than this. We go with a positive mindset to the World Cup.
21:52 Local Time, 17:52 GMT, 23:22 IST: Another dominating performance from Afghanistan. They posted an above-par total of 189 on the board, thanks to fifties from Rasooli and Atal. In reply, West Indies got off to a very slow start. Athanaze was run-out for 8 and they managed to score just 29 runs off the powerplay. Mujeeb removed Lewis and Charles off successive deliveries to reduce WI to 40/3. Hetmyer arrived and WI gained a lot of momentum. It started with three sixes from the left-hander against Noor and then King too joined the party as they stitched a quick fifty partnership. A flurry of sixes saw WI score 60 runs in just 25 deliveries. Rashid turned to Fazalhaq Farooqi and the left-arm speedster picked the crucial wicket of Hetmyer. King notched up a fifty but he perished to Mujeeb and thereby became his third victim as the mystery spinner claimed a hat-trick. The Windies kept losing wickets and fell short by 39 runs.
